Dancing On Ice’s Jayne Torvill breaks silence on Phillip Schofield at the NTAs and reveals who she wants to replace him | The Sun

DANCING On Ice judge Jayne Torvill has backed Stephen Mulhern to replace Phillip Schofield alongside Holly Willoughby when the series returns in January.

The show was thrown into chaos when Phillip quit ITV earlier this year after he confessed to a romance with a younger This Morning runner.

Speaking at the National Television Awards at The 02 in London on Tuesday, Dancing on Ice's head judge Jayne told The Sun: "I am sure ITV will find the right person.

"Stephen (Mulhern) did it before when Phillip was ill. And he was great. If he did it, it would be great."

Asked whether Holly, 42, could take on hosting duties alone Jayne, 65, replied: "I am sure she could if she had to."

Earlier this year Phillip quit This Morning and ITV when it emerged he had lied over the relationship with a runner almost 30 years his junior.

In a statement, he said he was "deeply sorry" for the affair which he said was “unwise, but not illegal”.

Meanwhile, Jane McDonald, 60, has also been tipped to win the coveted telly job after she impressed as a stand-in host for Phillip at the British Soap Awards, which he had overseen for 16 years.

A former Dancing On Ice winner has also thrown their hat into the ring.

Jayne attended the NTAs on Tuesday night with her daughter Jessica and the proud mum beamed beside her stunning daughter.
