What happened to Liam in Coronation Street? | The Sun

SOAP viewers were stunned when Liam Connor's bullying ordeal took a devastating turn on Wednesday (November 22, 2023).

Coronation Street viewers are fearing the worst for the young boy. But who is he and what is happening to him?

Who is Liam Connor in Coronation Street?

ITV viewers have watched young Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall) grow up right before their eyes after he was first introduced to life in Weatherfield in July, 2009.

Liam is the son of Corrie legend Maria Connor (played by Samia Longchambon) and her late husband, Liam Connor.

As regular viewers of the Manchester-based drama will perhaps recall, Liam Connor Sr. was once at the head of the Underworld factory and embarked on an affair with his sister-in-law Carla Connor.

However, he eventually fell for the feisty hairdresser but their romance was tragically cut short when he was killed in a hit and run organised by Tony Gordon in October, 2008.

This led to Maria discovering she was pregnant and Tony Gordon decided to help her before getting romantically involved with her.

Maria named her son Liam in honour of her late spouse and even gave him the middle name Anthony, as a tribute to Tony.

But when she found out he was responsible for Liam's death, Maria and her son moved to Ireland, where she found refuge with his paternal grandparents, Barry and Helen Connor.

Liam and Maria returned to the cobbles in 2010, moving into No.2A, a flat located above Audrey Roberts' salon.

Throughout his years in Coronation Street, Liam had a number of father figures including Marcus Dent – who Maria kicked out after his tryst with Todd Grimshaw – and Pablo Duarte.

But in 2020, one of these father figures was here to stay as Maria tied the knot with Gary Windass (Mikey North) and their marriage has seemingly been going strong ever since.

In August, 2021, Liam developed a chesty cough and collapsed while playing football with Jack Webster, struggling to breathe.

He was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with asthma and given an inhaler.

His condition made it easy for Weatherfield bully Mason Radcliffe to torment him which brings us to what really happened to Liam Connor.

What happened to Liam Connor in Coronation Street?

In earlier scenes of the long-running drama, Liam Connor was peer pressured into trying to inhale a vape pen by Mason Radcliffe.

Due to his asthma, he was immediately unwell and brought into hospital to his worried parents.

This prompted Gary Windass to take a stand for Liam but Mason isn't one to back down.

Sadly, Liam's bullying ordeal took a very dangerous turn on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.

Mason initially confronted Liam for snitching on him and, later on in the episode, he and his gang (including Dylan Wilson) cornered him and covered him in rubbish.

Liam was then appalled when Mason started taking photos of him and he managed to knock his phone out of his hand.

Unfortunately, this only angered Mason even further as he pulled out a knife from his pocket to threaten Liam.

Liam managed to escape unharmed and, once he was safely home, he told his stepbrother Jake that he'd just been threatened with a knife.

The police eventually approached Mason and asked to search him after receiving a secret tip that he'd been carrying a dangerous weapon – but the cops were empty-handed as the lad ditched the blade.

It was then revealed that Jake had tipped the police about Mason but this only made things worse for Liam.

Wednesday's episode featured scenes of Liam receiving abusive messages from Mason and fans are convinced the ordeal could end in the youngster's death.

"Poor little Liam….I fear there’s either going to be a stabbing or an attempted suicide", one viewer penned on X.

Another agreed: "Anyone thinking this storyline is going to lead to a teen suicide?"

"So which way is this marvellous storyline going? Suicide or stabbing? Disgusting", a third commented while a fourth asked: "Will the lad be committing suicide?"

Who is Mason Radcliffe in Coronation Street?

Mason Radcliffe made his Corrie debut in September, 2023, and has been portrayed by Luca Toolan since his first appearance in the show.

Upon his arrival in the cobbles, Mason made it abundantly clear that he wasn't ready to make any friends as he began to torment multiple residents.

As mentioned above, he most notably targeted Liam Connor, relentlessly bullying him and belittling him.

However, Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) is another one of his targets as he has pushed him to do his dirty work.

In more recent scenes of the soap, Mason also got on Amy Barlow's (Elle Mulvaney) bad side during a protest.

But with Gary lurking around, Mason may find a worthy adversary as the former military has a reputation for being capable of murder.

"Gary would absolutely destroy Mason", Luca Toolan told Digital Spy.

"I don't know what Mason is playing at by picking on Liam! He absolutely should be worried, but I don't think he knows how capable Gary is of causing destruction."

"Mason is just naïve and thinks he's the big man. When or if it does kick off, I think you will see a scared Mason."

How will Liam's bullying ordeal unfold?

Coronation Street airs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV.
