Lacey Turner’s life outside of EastEnders from tragic loss to soap star siblings

Loose Women: Lacey Turner discusses her waters breaking

Lacey Turner first made her EastEnders debut nearly 20 years ago when the actress arrived as the sassy yet troubled teenager, Stacey Slater.

Making her way to Walford at the start of November 2004, fans of the BBC soap have seen the character involved in some of the most dramatic storylines.

They include being diagnosed with bipolar, having an affair with her partner’s dad, and even killing Archie Mitchell (Larry Lamb).

However, the soap star’s life away from Albert Square seems a far cry different to her on-screen role.

Express.co.uk has decided to take a look into the life of Lacey when the cameras stop rolling.

Famous siblings

It looks as though acting runs in the Turner family as Lacey’s two sisters have also starred in soaps.

Her younger sister Daisy played the role of Rebecca Massey in Hollyoaks at the start of 2011, but sadly her character was killed off at the end of the year.

The youngest of the siblings, Lily appeared alongside Lacey in EastEnders and stayed on in the soap for a year.

She played the part of Shenice Quinn back in 2011 as the daughter of Martina Quinn, (played by Tamara Wall) who was Kat Moon’s (Jessie Wallace) friend she met in Spain.

At the time, Lily was nine years old and auditioned with the surname Harvey, not letting on she was Lacey’s sister.

When she got the role, former soap boss Bryan Kirkwood had no idea the duo were related until she was cast.

Lacey told New! Magazine two years ago she and her sisters are really close and speak every day.

She said: “My middle sister lives in Singapore and we haven’t seen her for such a long time, which is really sad.

“She was supposed to be in Ibiza with us, but because of the pandemic, this hasn’t happened as Singapore has restrictions in place. I don’t know what we would do without FaceTime!”

Family life

Lacey met her now husband Matt when she was only 15 years old at a party before they started dating.

They decided to tie the knot in 2017 in a sunny Ibiza ceremony with many of Lacey’s EastEnders co-stars in attendance.

However, the pair seemed to break a few traditions on the big day with both of Lacey’s parents walking her down the aisle.

Lacey and Matt also decided to spend the night before the wedding together as she told OK! at the time it felt special to them.

She commented: “I probably wouldn’t have slept as well anyway if I didn’t have Matt there.”

The duo welcomed their eldest child, Dusty, into the world two years after getting married before the addition of their son Trilby in 2021.

Tragic loss

Sadly, before they became a family of four, the soap stars suffered two miscarriages.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast about her heartbreak two years ago, she said: “For me, I think you become a mother the minute you’re pregnant. For that to be taken away, that’s another loss.

“You grieve the fact that you aren’t going to be a mother, as well as losing a baby. It was a loss at seven weeks.”

The soap star was 29 when she suffered her miscarriage as she detailed her hopes of becoming a parent.

She continued: “I was so excited thinking of names and things like that.

“I just remember sitting on my bed in a ball, sobbing. At the time, I remember thinking, ‘Why me? Why is this only happening to me?’ I did feel so alone because nobody knew.”

EastEnders continues Mondays to Thursdays on BBC One from 7.30pm.
