WWE SmackDown results: LA Knight saves John Cena to make Fastlane match official
LA Knight saved WWE legend John Cena from another beatdown from The Bloodline as SmackDown came to a thrilling end.
The megastar will team up with the 16-time world champion – who he crossed paths with at Payback earlier this month – at the Fastlane premium live event on October 7 as they take on Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso in a huge tag match.
The show started with Jimmy, Solo and Paul Heyman recapping their actions last week on SmackDown, including putting AJ Styles in hospital.
The OC’s Karl Anderson came out to confront them, challenging one of them to a match which led to him facing Jimmy, with the latter getting the win.
Solo laid him out with a Samoan Spike while Michin sent Jimmy to the floor with a massive slap, with commentary insisting Cena wasn’t there but was on his way.
Backstage, they took out their frustrations on poor Ashante ‘Thee’ Adonis as B-Fab had to watch on, the duo came out again to beat down Cena when he finally arrived at the end of the show with a contract in his hand.
He teased the idea of going solo at Fastlane before the Bloodline took him out, only for LA Knight to appear and make the save as he signed the contract to the roar of the crowd.
This was likely what was meant to happen last week when the rising star was pulled from the show due to Covid – but we got there in the end, and it was well worth the wait.
Asuka added to Fastlane match, Street Profits get back in Bobby Lashley’s good books and Dragon Lee appears
Bobby Lashley appeared on the Grayson Waller Effect and insisted he was going ‘back to the drawing board’ after the Street Profits let him down.
Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins hit the ring, but the All mighty insisted he didn’t want to hear anything from them – he needs to see the results.
He left him in the ring, prompting Waller to bring out Austin Theory for a match with Cameron Grimes, with the former United States Champion won after interference from his Aussie teammate.
Rey Mysterio retained the United States Championship against his LWO ally Santos Escobar in a fantastic match which got plenty of time for the student and mentor to deliver in spades.
The unsuccessful challenger hesitated after the bell when the masked legend held out his hand, and the duo got taken out from behind by the Street Profits.
Lashley looked impressed as he wandered out to join the fun, and while the rest of the LWO tried to make the save, they got attacked too, with Dragon Lee – there to promote NXT No Mercy this weekend – held back by security.
