Louise Redknapp pulls out of Eternal reunion over LGBTQ+ concerns
Louise Redknapp revealed she was missing out on the Eternal reunion tour after two of the band’s members refused to play shows at LGBTQ+ festivals and Pride.
The 48-year-old singer shot to fame with the group in the nineties and was planning to join them on a massive reunion tour next year – that would include Pride and Mighty Hoopla.
Celebrating the LGBTQ+ communities, both festivals were looked upon unfavourably by two members, Easther and Vernie Bennett.
It was alleged that the sisters refused to play both stops because they believed that the gay community was being ‘hijacked’ by the trans community.
Following the news, Louise’s publicist Simon Jones responded according to MailOnline and said: ‘A message was sent to the team putting together the Eternal reunion stating that if it was to go ahead, neither Vernie nor Easther would perform at Pride shows or LGBTQ+ festivals.
‘This was because the duo felt that the gay community was being hijacked by the trans community and they do not support this.
‘Louise is a huge supporter and ally of the LGBTQ+ community and both herself and Kelle told the duo they would not work with anyone who held these views, and as such the reunion as a four would not be going ahead.
‘The team behind the proposed Eternal reunion are gay including management, PR and tour promoter, and neither myself nor any of the team would work with artists who held such views about the trans community.’
Earlier this year in August, Louise took to the stage at Brighton Pride as a solo act and has been known to be a supporter of the community in the past.
Since leaving the group in 1995 to pursue her own solo career, the formerly scheduled tour was set to be the first time Eternal’s original line-up had performed together.
After Louise’s stance, another ex-bandmate and Loose Women star Kelle Bryan was said to have also pulled out of the reunion tour for the same reasons as suggested by the star’s spokesperson.
Eternal earned their spot on the charts with tracks such as Stay and I Wanna Be The Only One.
