Kevin Hart will be in a wheelchair for the foreseeable future after injuring himself in an accident.
The Ride Along actor and comedian revealed the news to his Instagram followers on Wednesday, posting a video of himself sitting in a wheelchair.
He explained that he competed in a footrace against former NFL star Stevan Ridley but pushed himself to the limit. The 44-year-old comic recalled how he challenged Ridley, best known for playing for the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers, to see who was faster.
Kevin warned those in his audience of a mature age: ‘To all my men, women out there who are 40 and above, it’s not a game, respect that age or that age will make you respect it. I was made to respect it. This is just a public service announcement as I know people may see me out and I don’t want you to be alarmed but I’m in a wheelchair.’
The Jumanji star then panned the camera to reveal his wheelchair and detailed how it was the result of him trying to ‘do some young stuff.’
Before the competition with Ridley, Kevin insisted he was faster but when they ran the 40-yard dash, he ‘blew all [his] s**t.’
‘Tore my lower abdomen and my abductors are torn. I don’t even know what that is, but I tore them,’ the actor said.
He then declared: ‘I can’t walk. This is 44… It’s over, sit down. What are we competing for at this age? What am I even doing? Why did I even race? Stupidest s*** ever … got to be the stupidest man alive. It is what it is man, this is life.
‘Got to be the stupidest man alive. It is what it is. This is life. I’m out.’
Kevin later revealed that his recovery period is expected to last six to eight weeks.
The comedian’s friends didn’t waste the opportunity to roast him while also sending him well wishes.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson commented: ‘In tore my adductor off my pelvis during a wrestling match. True story. You’ll be fine. You’ll grow a 3rd ball but you’ll be fine 😂 Heal up.’
Will Smith empathised: ‘Getting older is REAL!! Heal Up, Kev!!’
R&B singer Mario quipped: ‘You gotta warm up for about 10 minutes big fella!’
Tracee Ellis Ross was particularly amused and told her friend ‘sorry and [several cry-laughing emoji].’
Michael Ealy wrote: ‘Kev Kev Kev… damn Gina. Praying for your recovery brother.’
Wanda Sykes joked: ‘If 44 is kicking yo ass..wait til you hit 55…you might just disintegrate. Get well dummy!’
It’s not the first time Kevin has experienced health woes as he was involved in a serious car crash in 2019 that left him requiring surgery.
The Secret Life of Pets star was in the passenger seat when the car rolled into an embankment in Malibu Hills, California. He was treated for back injuries and was discharged from hospital into a rehabilitation facility after 10 days.
Opening up about the ordeal, Kevin said on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast in 2020: ‘My biggest cry in life came from the first day that I came home from the hospital because I never had to see that house again.
‘Like there was an option of me never seeing that home again. There was an option of me never walking on that driveway again. There was an option of me never seeing my wife and my kids again.’
