Kate Middleton can’t seem to win in the public eye. As the Princess of Wales, some royal critics believe she isn’t doing enough international travel with Prince William. But as a mother to three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, fans knows she would be told that she was an absent parent if she consistently jetted off on royal tours,. So, Kate’s friends are here to defend her in the wake of recent headlines about her work ethic.
These claims aren’t new, though. Both the Prince and Princess of Wales have been on the receiving end of criticism for prioritizing their young family over their royal duties before, but now, her pals are tired of the ongoing narrative. Calling the negativing “absurd” to The Daily Beast, a Kate insider explained, “If the accusation is that Kate isn’t pulling her weight, that is absurd and everyone who knows them knows it. It is not exactly a state secret that she has three children aged 10, 8, and 5 on whom the future of the monarchy depends.”
The eyebrow-raising part of the situation is that the Daily Mail has suddenly started to turn on the palace. The British tabloid has taken the time to criticize Kate and King Charles in a matter of days — and shockingly offered Prince Harry and Meghan Markle some support. That doesn’t seem to be ruffling Kate’s friends too much as they doubled down on their praise for her.

“She works incredibly hard. They have had this type of criticism from the press before and I’m sure they will have it again. It’s water off a duck’s back. Real people understand that you have to prioritize your children at that age, and you can’t both just go flying off to New York at the drop of a hat,” they said. “The fact that they both consistently receive very high approval ratings shows that the public get it, even if the Daily Mail wants to find fault.”
But King Charles might want to pay attention to the criticism, because the royal critics and the anti-monarchists’ cries are growing louder. How can Charles and the rest of the working senior royals right the ship? They haven’t found the right balance yet in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing — her legacy might be too great a void to fill.
