Chelsea Clinton's Recent Remarks on Gender Equity Echoed Her Mom Hillary’s Famous Phrase
Chelsea Clinton has always taken a lot of inspiration from her mother, Hillary Clinton. The Clinton Foundation Vice Chair uses her platform to promote gender equity and parity, and that couldn’t have been more clear in recent comments she made following the foundation’s latest initiative addition. Chelsea’s remarks completely spoke to the need for progress when it comes to equality, and she completely echoed one of her mom’s most enduring phrases.
While speaking with AP News about the Clinton Global Initiative’s gender equity work, Chelsea made it clear just how vital highlighting conversations and policies around equality are to the nonprofit. “Whatever the issue — it’s connected to women and it falls more heavily on women,” she said, per AP News. “It also requires us to center women in how we think about what our collective response should be.”
Then, Chelsea repurposed a turn of phrase her mom said more than 20 years ago. “Human rights are women’s rights and women’s rights are human rights.” Those inimitable words were first uttered by Hillary Clinton during the United Nations Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995, when Hillary was First Lady of the United States.
All of these years later, those words still ring true. Like her mother, Chelsea uses her voice to highlight a progressive platform that speaks to the need for equality. As Chelsea continues her work, we’re sure her mother’s words will continue to inspire and guide her.
