Annabel Croft on daughter’s ‘bittersweet’ engagement after husbands death
Strictly: Annabel Croft discusses late husband with Johannes
Strictly Come Dancing star Annabel Croft has confessed her daughter’s engagement feels “bittersweet” following the death of her beloved husband Mel Coleman.
The former tennis champion shares three grown-up children with her late husband: a son named Charlie, as well as daughters Amber and Lily.
Mel unexpectedly died of colon cancer at the age of 60 back in May, leaving his family devastated.
In an interview with MailOnline, Annabel reflected on the heartbreak she and her children had been subjected to.
The star, whose son recently moved back home with her, explained: “The grief comes in waves, often when you are least expecting it.

“I’ll be driving and feel this jolt. It is physical pain, visceral,” she continued sadly.
“My daughter got engaged the other day, which was bittersweet. We have a wedding to come, but Mel won’t be there.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Annabel recalled “going into total freefall” after being told that Mel was going to die.

“I was one of those wailing women in the hospital car park,” she said. “Poor Mel was the one who’d been told he was going to die, and he was comforting me.
“Three months later, I was picking up a death certificate and our three children were having to process the fact their dad’s name was on there.
“Our son, Charlie, said it was as if a hand had come down from the sky and plucked Mel out, leaving our family with a gaping hole that will never be filled.”
This year Annabel is taking part in BBC One show Strictly Come Dancing, which she believes has come at the perfect time.
Describing the show as “joyful”, she has revealed that her late husband was a big fan of her dance partner Johannes Radebe.
Strictly Come Dancing continues this Saturday at 6.35pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
