A Place in the Sun star lifts lid on getting ‘devastating’ news before show gig
A Place in the Sun star Jean Johansson has lifted the lid on the tough time she had before finally booking her place on the Channel 4 show.
The This Morning regular has reflected on the moment she was left “devastated” after failing to land the gig on her first try.
In an exclusive interview with OK! Magazine, she admitted: “When I first auditioned for the show, I didn’t get it and I was completely devastated.
“My agent at the time told me the opportunity would never come up again.
“Presenters never leave – look at Jasmine Harman, Laura Hamilton and Scarlette Douglas,” she added.

“But I just had a feeling that it would happen for me, and it did.”
As well as hosting the popular Channel 4 property show, Jean has also starred on Celebrity MasterChef and even won the Celebrity Mastermind trophy in 2022.
However, with A Place in the Sun being so close to her heart, she has admitted she is so thrilled to be signing up for another year with the programme.

She went on to express how her “wonderful” house hunters really added to her experience hosting the show.
“I have so much respect for them – they go for it,” she said. “A lot of us talk about moving abroad but never do it. But they do and they tend to have amazing back stories too.”
Jean also revealed that celebrities often watch her show, adding: “Eamonn Holmes in particular is a big fan and footballers ask for help to look for a property.”
Jean began her career in 1998 on CBBC and The Disney Channel, before moving on to present the weather for STV and work for programmes like The One Show and Sunday Morning Live.
The presenter has been married to Finnish football coach and former Rangers player Jonatan Johansson since 2008 and the pair share one son named Junior.
A Place in the Sun airs at 3pm today on Channel 4 and All4.
