<\/p>\nA SURVEY has revealed adults talk more about TV shows than the weather and jobs.<\/p>\n
The study, commissioned by streaming service Roku, also found half of Brits have unfinished TV shows on their watching list. <\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
A poll of 2,000 TV viewers found 39 per cent spend more time discussing the latest series with friends and family than they do the forecast (27 per cent) and their employment (24 per cent).<\/p>\n
While people also have longer conversations about what\u2019s on the box than food (24 per cent) and relationships (17 per cent).<\/p>\n
When it comes to boxsets, 51 per cent have something unfinished at any given time \u2013 with an average of four outstanding shows on their current TV viewing list.<\/p>\n
A lack of time (36 per cent), forgetting what\u2019s happened so far (33 per cent), and mood changes (32 per cent) are the most common reasons.<\/p>\n
While 32 per cent get bored mid-episode so switch to something else and never go back to it and 11 per cent give up on their current series to view something which everyone else is talking about.<\/p>\n The study was set launch Roku's new \u2018What to Watch\u2019 feature, also found the average TV enthusiast currently has five 'to watch' series on their list, and will add two new ones to this every month.<\/p>\n Sally Nelson, director UK product at the brand, said: \u201cWith hundreds of new films and TV shows released each year, the choice of entertainment can become overwhelming.<\/p>\n "Paired with the pressure to be a part of cultural conversations we now know how people feel with the research showing that an individual has to watch at least two series each month to keep up.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n According to the poll, 65 per cent take up to 20 minutes to choose what to watch, with 29 per cent then viewing half an episode before deciding whether or not to continue with it.<\/p>\n The main components considered when deciding on their TV content include what mood they are in (49 per cent), whether it\u2019s been recommended by someone they know (27 per cent), and the cast (25 per cent).<\/p>\n However, if this is ever a struggle, half will go on a scrolling frenzy until they find something which appeals to them.<\/p>\n While 14 per cent will refer to a list they keep of shows which they come across in their everyday lives.<\/p>\n It also emerged half have previously watched an unfinished show \u2018just for the sake of it\u2019 rather than for the enjoyment.<\/p>\n But one in 10 feel anxious knowing they have a selection of not fully finished programmes on various streaming services.<\/p>\n With 22 per cent blaming their attention span for their irregular TV viewing habits, according to the\u00a0OnePoll.com\u00a0data.<\/p>\n Sally Nelson added: \u201cIn today's fast-paced world, it's crucial to maximize our leisure time and the last thing people want to do is waste precious moments deciding what to watch.<\/p>\n "If we reduced this time by half, people would have enough time to enjoy an extra series per year.\u201d<\/p>\n![](\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/comp-iac.jpg\")
