{"id":69016,"date":"2023-11-16T23:36:03","date_gmt":"2023-11-16T23:36:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotcelebon.com\/?p=69016"},"modified":"2023-11-16T23:36:03","modified_gmt":"2023-11-16T23:36:03","slug":"tiger-woods-mourns-death-of-golf-icon-ivor-robson-the-voice-of-the-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotcelebon.com\/celebrities\/tiger-woods-mourns-death-of-golf-icon-ivor-robson-the-voice-of-the-open\/","title":{"rendered":"Tiger Woods Mourns Death Of Golf Icon Ivor Robson, The Voice Of The Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/imagez.tmz.com\/image\/29\/4by3\/2023\/10\/17\/294348faa012460b8b10820a056a6842_md.jpg\"          loading=\"lazy\"          alt=\"\"        ><\/p>\n<p>The golf world is mourning the death of <strong>Ivor Robson <\/strong>&#8212; better known as the &#8220;Voice of The Open&#8221; &#8212; including<strong> <\/strong><strong>Tiger Woods<\/strong><strong> <\/strong>who thanked the icon for making each Open Championship &#8220;so memorable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Open released a statement on Tuesday announcing the death of Robson at 83.<\/p>\n<p>Tiger<strong> <\/strong>paid tribute once the sad news broke, writing, &#8220;Thank you Ivor for making each one of my Open starts so memorable,&#8221; Woods said on X.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/imagez.tmz.com\/image\/31\/4by3\/2023\/10\/17\/311fc753b5da45c5a743f7eabe427786_md.jpg\"          loading=\"lazy\"          alt=\"\"        ><\/p>\n<p>Other golfers honored Robson, as well. <strong>Thomas Bjorn <\/strong>called him &#8220;a real legend in our world who will be deeply missed&#8221; and <strong>Paul McGinley<\/strong> described him as &#8220;the most famous &amp; popular first tee starter golfer has ever had.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>McGinley added &#8230; &#8220;His legacy will be that iconic and quintessential British voice of his.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Robson began his career at The Open in 1975 &#8230; and was one of the most admired announcers in sports until his retirement in 2015 after 41 Championships.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, Robson, who established the famous &#8220;On the tee&#8221; introduction, was known to not even take bathroom breaks during the Championships.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/imagez.tmz.com\/image\/66\/4by3\/2023\/10\/17\/668c15ad366f4ab49038813ea2a67cc5_md.jpg\"          loading=\"lazy\"          alt=\"\"        ><\/p>\n<p><strong>Martin Slumbers<\/strong>, CEO of The R&amp;A (Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews), expressed sadness over Robson&#8217;s passing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He was popular and well respected among all golfers who played in The Open and I know that they will share in our sadness at this news,&#8221; Slumbers said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On behalf of all of us at The R&amp;A, I would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to his wife of 61 years, Lesley, and the Robson family.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, when Ivor called his last Open Championship, he said &#8230; &#8220;It has been a wonderful career. It&#8217;s been a great honor,&#8221; Robson said at his final announcement.
