After Lennon quit The Beatles in 1969, tensions between the two songwriting partners were strained due to the fallout and later legal battles over ownership of the group\u2019s catalogue.<\/p>\n
They reconnected in the mid-1970s, spending time with each other at the New York home John shared with Yoko Ono.<\/p>\n
Lennon was shot dead by crazed fan Mark Chapman on December 8, 1980, at the age of just 40.<\/p>\n
Sir Paul, 81, said he would have been haunted by his childhood friend\u2019s death if they had never reconciled.<\/p>\n
He explained: \u201cIt was super, super painful. There was a lot of navigation of emotions to be done.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of hurt to be sailed around, but we did it.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the end, it was something I was very glad of when he got murdered, \u2013 that I\u2019d had some really good times with him before that happened.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt would have been the worst thing in the world for someone like me had he just been killed and we still had a bad relationship.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would have just thought \u2018I should have, I should have, I should have.\u2019 That would have been a big guilt trip for me. Luckily, we were friendly \u2013 we talked about how to bake bread.\u201d<\/p>\n

I sued his friends from Liverpool, life-long friends, in court.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of getting over that has to be done.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re guys. It\u2019s not like a boy and a girl, it\u2019s a guy and a guy, it\u2019s a boy and a boy. And, in those days, you didn\u2019t release as much emotion with each other.\u201d<\/p>\n Sir Paul, right, told how things turned sour after the group split up.<\/p>\n He said\u00a0 that in a legal battle over ownership of the back catalogue, bandmates Sir Ringo Starr and George Harrison decided to side with John and manager Allen Klein against him.<\/p>\n Don’t miss… <\/strong>
