SINGER Dwight Twilley has died aged 72, just days after sharing a tragic post about awaiting surgery.<\/p>\n

The Girls and I'm On Fire hitmaker's wife Jan confirmed news of his death on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n


\n<\/p>\n

Jan shared a statement from Tulsa\u2019s Church Studio, which is where Dwight recorded several songs.<\/p>\n

She said: "With heavy hearts, we share the devastating news of Dwight Twilley\u2019s passing.<\/p>\n

"He peacefully departed this world, surrounded by the love of his life, Jan, and close friends.<\/p>\n

"The loss is immeasurable, and our words can\u2019t capture the depth of our grief.<\/p>\n

"Dwight\u2019s musical prowess touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of many.<\/p>\n

"We are profoundly thankful for the enduring musical legacy he has bestowed upon us all."<\/p>\n

Jan did not reveal the cause of Dwight's death. <\/p>\n

The musician's family promised to "provide further details" in the next few days as they "honor and remember the remarkable life" of the late star.<\/p>\n

Dwight revealed at the weekend that he had broken his leg. <\/p>\n

"Dwight Twilley broke his leg! Has to hang up his Dancin\u2019 shoes for a while," he posted on Facebook on Saturday. <\/p>\n

The singer added that he was going to have surgery on his tibia.<\/p>\n

Shortly before that, he wrote: "I\u2019m not feelin\u2019 that great today\u2026 My leg is Very Messed up\u2026 Nighty, night, night [sic]."<\/p>\n

Dwight was born in Tulsa in 1951 and broke onto the music scene alongside his friend Phil Seymour – who died in 1993.<\/p>\n

They formed Oister and, several years later, they signed a record deal.<\/p>\n

They released two top 20 hits with I'm On Fire (1975) and Girls (1984) under the name Dwight Twilley Band.<\/p>\n

They performed together until 1978 when Dwight broke out as a solo act.<\/p>\n

It covers six original albums:\u00a0Tulsa, The Luck, 47 Moons, Green Blimp, Soundtrack\u00a0and\u00a0Always.<\/p>\n
