Selena Gomez and her kidney donor friend Francia Raisa donned matching frocks as they shared a red carpet after reportedly reconciling following their rumoured ‘feud’.

Singer and actress Selena, 31, staged a star-studded benefit gala for her Rare Impact Fund, a project set up to support young people with their mental health, in Los Angeles on Wednesday. And Francia, the 35 year old star of Grown-ish and How I Met Your Father, turned out in support of the event – with the pair even accidentally co-ordinating in glitzy silver gowns.

According to reports, there has been speculation that Selena and Francia have had repeated falling outs following the former’s kidney transplant in 2017 – which came amid her battle with lupus. While on the red carpet, Francia spoke about the pair’s ‘rocky’ friendship and insisted the kidney transplant played no role in their spats.

Francia made the life-saving decision to donate her kidney to Selena, who at the age of 24 had suffered damage to the organ from lupus – a disease that occurs when a body's immune system attacks its own tissues and organs.

According to reports, there were rumours that Francia felt ‘forced’ to go through with the operation and that she took issue with Selena’s lifestyle choices following the transplant. Tensions were reportedly heightened further still last year when Selena told Rolling Stone that Taylor Swift was her only friend in Hollywood.

Francia, speaking to Extra on the red carpet on Wednesday, admitted their relationship was not 'perfect’ but added Selena was like her ‘little sister'. She recalled meeting Selena 16 years ago while they starred on shows aimed at young audiences – Secret Life of the American Teenager and Wizards of Waverly Place.

After the meeting, the pair began hanging out but it was their mutual breakups that solidified their friendship. Francia said she and Selena 'trauma bonded, which is beautiful, but also it can get rocky and tricky…People grow, relationships change’.

She added: “I obviously treat her like my little sister. She treats me like her older sister… I don't know any relationship that's perfect… When our situation came up… No, I never pictured that, but obviously I never regretted it.

“I am happy that we are here today celebrating and supporting each other.”

She went on: "[Selena and I] had to almost go on our own journey and grow. Now I am really happy in my career and my endeavour. I don't know if I would be able to do that if I didn't really take some time for myself and figure out what the hell was going on with me because I wasn't ok.”

She added: “I am okay now and just for the record it had nothing to do with the kidney.”

Francia went on to say she was excited now that she and Selena could 'get to know each other again' now they were older and in their 30s. She also praised her pal for shining a light on mental health through her Rare Impact Fund.
