Huw Edwards\u2019 BBC News at 10 replacement is soon to be announced, according to reports. <\/p>\n
The veteran journalist, 62, took over the flagship show as main anchor from David Dimbleby in 2019, but has been off air since\u00a0claims emerged<\/strong>\u00a0he had paid a young person more than \u00a335,000 for\u00a0sexually explicit images.<\/p>\n The Met police later confirmed there was no evidence of a crime being committed,\u00a0with Edwards\u2019s wife\u00a0shortly afterwards releasing a statement on his behalf and sharing he\u2019d been \u2018suffering from serious\u00a0mental health\u00a0issues\u2019 and was receiving in-patient hospital care where he would stay for the \u2018foreseeable future\u2019.<\/p>\n While an official announcement hasn\u2019t been made, insiders claim broadcaster Clive Myrie\u00a0will take over Edwards role on BBC News at Ten.<\/p>\n The Times\u00a0claimed that Myrie\u2019s role was the most prominent as he delivered BBC News\u2019 chief executive Deborah\u00a0Turness\u2019 key line: \u2018We will never forget that your trust is earned.\u2019<\/p>\n It is also believed that staff were invited to an all-hands digital meeting on September 12 in which it was clear that Myrie would be the person that the BBC turns to as Edwards\u2019 replacement.<\/p>\n In her statement Edwards\u2019 wife Vicky Flind explained how the past five days had been \u2018extremely difficult\u2019 for the family and she wanted to release a statement \u2018out of concern for his mental well-being and to protect our children\u2019.<\/p>\n She explained that when her husband was \u2018well enough\u2019 to respond to the allegations, he intended to, whilst also adding that he was \u2018deeply sorry that so many colleagues have been impacted by the recent media speculation\u2019.<\/p>\n After Edwards was named as the presenter at the centre of the allegations, several others spoke out and\u00a0expressed their concern for him, including Dan Walker, Alistair Campbell and Jon Sopel.<\/p>\n Channel 5 presenter Walker said it was\u00a0\u2018an awful situation\u00a0and will come as a big shock to many.\u2019<\/p>\n \u2018Huw Edwards is clearly not in a good place at the moment and this must be terrible for his family.<\/p>\n \u2018I just hope that whoever needs help \u2013 on all sides of this \u2013 gets the time, space & support they need to heal.\u2019<\/p>\n Metro.co.uk has reached out to BBC for comment.<\/em><\/p>\n Got a story?<\/strong><\/p>\n If you\u2019ve got a celebrity story, video or pictures get in touch with the Metro.co.uk entertainment team by emailing us celebtips@metro.co.uk, calling 020 3615 2145 or by visiting our Submit Stuff page \u2013 we\u2019d love to hear from you.<\/p>\n
