Despite being a global superstar, Ed Sheeran is still a down to earth guy, as rising pop star Dylan can attest to.

The musical phenomenon behind hits like No Romeo and You’re Not Harry Styles has been named as an opening act for Ed’s Las Vegas shows.

Dylan is gearing up for her own tour Rebel Child – named after her brand new single – and couldn’t speak more highly of her fellow Brit.

The duo have worked together before with Dylan, real name Natasha Woods, supporting the Lego house singer on his +–=÷× Tour last year.

She sat down with Metro.co.uk to talk all things fame, Ed Sheeran, and dad rock ahead of her new single and even more touring.

‘He’s a legend. He has been so helpful to me as I’ve got to know him better, especially on the American tour this year,’ she enthused about the 32-year-old.

Dylan is one of the many female pop artists gathering incredible support through social media and rising through the charts.

She is signed to Island Records, the label behind the likes of Ariana Grande, Kim Petras, and Hozier, and teased that her first studio album is on the way.

The 23-year-old continued: ‘Ed’s been so good with helping me navigate what it means to be an artist. [Things like] how to deal with the internet and how to deal with being young in the industry, but having to be an adult and know which way you’re going.

‘Before most of the shows, he sat me down and just went “Right so what’s on your mind?” – he’s a really, really good guy.’

She shared a nugget of that wisdom from the Bad Habits singer and said: ‘[Social media] is all about knowing that if they don’t like you and they’ve never met you – that probably means that you don’t really want them to be a part of your world.

‘Don’t get me wrong, I still struggle with it because people can be so mean without cause. But equally, it’s one comment out of nine people going, “Oh, I love this song”.’

Dylan added: ‘We’re all humans. We’re all doing our best and sitting in our bedroom writing these silly little songs that sometimes we play in front of thousands of people.

‘It’s a little bit strange but you have to learn to cope with it. At the same time, it means that you get to do shows and do what you love.’

Eager to work with Ed again, when she heard his tour was back in action, the Liar Liar singer realised she was in the US at the same time and sent him a cheeky message.

Ed’s initial Vegas shows had to be cancelled after health and safety concerns were raised, which Dylan said was ‘a horrible time’.

‘I sent him a little message, just letting him know: “If you need someone as a support act!”‘ she laughed.

Of course, the ‘most wonderful person that he is’, Ed immediately said yes.

Dylan has been incredibly busy over the past year, playing show after show and recording brand new music with only five days off in total.

However, the work has paid off already as she revealed Niall Horan said he liked her cover of Kiwi by former bandmate Harry Styles – plus her song about the 1D heartthrob.

Self confessed workaholic Dylan cites ‘dad rock’ for getting her into music but Taylor Swift’s lyricism for inspiring her to write her ‘honest’ feelings down into songs.

Her dream collaboration would be with The Black Keys, she joked: ‘Do you know how much I want to be in that band? I think that would be epic.’

Regardless of if a collaboration manifests, Dylan has found her sound and her ‘home’ within the industry – with a little thanks to Ed Sheeran.

She shared: ‘I’m so happy now, I’m completely confident in where I want my music to go.’

Dylan’s new single Rebel Child is out now on Spotify, Apple Music, and all major music streaming services.

Got a story?

If you’ve got a celebrity story, video or pictures get in touch with the Metro.co.uk entertainment team by emailing us celebtips@metro.co.uk, calling 020 3615 2145 or by visiting our Submit Stuff page – we’d love to hear from you.
