A DISTRAUGHT pensioner says she could have to pay thousands of pounds after "ugly" heat pumps for newbuilds were put up outside her garden.

Jill has been reduced to tears by the new housing block – with two huge heat pumps – now overlooking her home in Exeter, Devon.

The 84-year-old described enduring three years of noise and disturbance as five-storey The Gorge housing development went up in the cul-de-sac where she lives.

Jill says she was assured by developer Watkin Jones the heat pumps would soon be obscured by trees planted in front.

But she said: "My blood pressure has gone up and I have been reduced to tears by the noise and the massive delays in getting it done.

"I had two enormous green ugly containers by my back garden for 18 months – I was pleased when they were taken away about six months ago.

"Then the heat pumps arrived in the last couple of weeks – I can't stand them."

Despite being told "four to five trees" would be "planted very soon", she added she was "anxious" about more potential commotion.

She added: "I don't want to end my dying days staring at two vast heat pumps."

She told how the development had "spoiled the quality of life and health" for her and neighbours as she complained of tinnitus-like symptoms.
