Coronation Street fans may not be waving goodbye to serial killer Stephen Reid any time soon as fans predict the crafty way he’ll stay in Weatherfield.

Portrayed by Todd Boyce, Stephen's murderous storylines have kept viewers on the edge of their seats, and recent behind-the-scenes images suggest he’s set to be rumbled for his crimes and exit the show.

The images show a startling discovery, as the lifeless body of one of Stephen's victims emerges from the canal, concealed within a roof box.

While some viewers interpret this as a sign of his impending exit, others have devised a cunning theory as to how he could stay on the show for years to come.

Taking to Reddit, one fan said: "Frame Paul for the murders as we know he is leaving, forge confessions by Paul, we know he stole Rufus's car so they already know he was there. Then, Stephen could stay, like killers Tracy and Gary."

The idea was well received by other Corrie fans, with another chiming in: "It is a fair point Tracy and Gary have been allowed to stay long term despite killing multiple people, so why not Uncle Stephen."

Many more fans chimed in, all eager to see Stephen's character remain on the cobbles. One enthusiast enthusiastically expressed, "I would love him to be a permanent fixture. He is the main reason I crave Coronation Street."

Another echoed this sentiment, declaring: "He's one of the main reasons I watch. Would love for him to stay."

Todd Boyce, who brings Stephen Reid to life on the screen, offered his insights on the character's trajectory, saying: "I don't see anyone else on the horizon in terms of who could be killed. We're not that far ahead, so they could surprise me at any time.

“I was trying to get the grandstands on telly; I want to be the one who's killed the most. But in a sense, I think he's an accidental killer.

“When he first killed Leo, it was actually scripted to be more of a scuffle for the phone, and then he went over. But I decided, 'Let's let Stephen have a little more to do with that.'"

Boyce continued: "There's no end in sight, but I have a feeling he'll get caught. I would like personally for him to go out in a blaze of glory; I don't want him to disappear and go back.

“I want something finite because I think the audience is losing their minds."
