1. ‘Lorena’

Examine a case that dominated headlines in the ‘90s with Lorena. Released in 2019, it’s a four-part documentary series about Lorena Bobbit, a woman who cut off her husband’s penis in 1993.

Executive produced by Oscar winner Jordan Peele, this Amazon Prime series looks at Bobbit’s marriage and the media attention surrounding her case. It also features interviews with the former husband and wife. 

2. ‘Solved: Extreme Forensics’

This one is for fans of the popular programs CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Cold Case Files. Solved: Extreme Forensics shows how advances in science are being used to solve cases that have gone unsolved for years or even decades.

An Investigation Discovery series, Solved: Extreme Forensics Season 1 is streaming on Amazon Prime Video at the time of publication. There are 13 45-minute episodes where seemingly impossible-to-solve crime are indeed solved thanks to unusual forensic techniques.

3. ‘Crime Stories’

Want a true crime TV show with a lot of episodes? Look no further than Crime Stories. All eight seasons of the series which aired from 1998 to 2010 are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video. Each 46-minute episode tells the story of a different high-profile case through re-enactments, firsthand accounts, and news footage. 

4. ‘The Eleven’

This true crime limited series from A&E follows investigators as they re-examine the murders of 11 teenage girls in Texas during the 1970s. Over the course of six 42-minute episodes, decades-old evidence is discovered and a suspect retracts his confession. Originally on the air in 2017, The Eleven may not be for those who like an old-fashioned whodunit because there’s no neat and tidy end to the story. 

5. ‘Becoming Evil: Serial Killers’

Want to find out more about serial killers? Then watch Becoming Evil: Serial Killers. Each hour-long episode in the seven-part documentary series examines a different topic. Learn about international serial killers, women serial killers, the psychology behind these types of crimes, as well as some of the most well-known serial killers in history. 

6. ‘Murdertown’

Go across the pond on Murdertown. This true crime show, which premiered in 2018, focuses on various crimes in Britain. There are interviews with family members, police officers, witnesses, and the press. Each episode is titled for a different city. 

At the time of publication, Murdertown Seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on Amazon Prime Video. There are 10 episodes in each season covering crimes in places such as Brighton, Bristol, and Ipswich. Details are provided about the crime and the impact it made on the community is closely examined.
