This Mornings Phil and Josie in stitches as he nearly sits on her in sofa mishap

This Morning stars Josie Gibson and Phillip Schofield got themselves into a total pickle on Monday's edition of the show as the latter presenter nearly ended up sitting on his co-host's lap.

It all began with Josie, 37, making a hilarious blunder and blocking 59 year old Phillip into the corner of the sofa so that he had no choice but to half sit on her as they plonked down together at the same time.

The awkward mishap occurred as all viewers could see on the screen was the scheduling for what was coming up on the show, but in the background they could hear Josie, who was filling in for Holly Willoughby, saying "oh sorry" to her colleague.

Immediately bursting into laughter, the pair lost their composure as they tried to explain what had happened.

"Move up move up," Phil chastised, "You've gotta leave some space! Leave some space for me.

"It's the cushions," Josie laughed awkwardly as Phillip said he'd desperately been trying to squeeze in the corner to no avail.

"I'm quite thin but I'm trying to squeeze next to these tiny cushions," the presenter explained, as Bristol-born Josie was left completely red-faced by the gaffe.

"I thought my bottom was smaller than what it was, sorry about that Phil!" she cried, admitting she hadn't left her co-star "any space" on the sofa.

Unable to stop giggling, the pair struggled to return to their jobs as Phil continued: "I was thinking I don't know how I'm going to get in here.

"Fighting to squeeze in to a tiny gap!" he snickered, before musing that "at least we're allowed to sit close together now".

"You nearly sat on my lap!" Josie went on, as a hysterical Phil insisted he "didn't know where else to go".

Eventually the pair managed to sort themselves out as Phil took the lead.

"Calm down now. Crack on with everything else!" he laughed.

It comes as Josie was asked to step in on Monday's show after regular host Holly unfortunately tested positive for COVID-19 at the weekend.

The presenter was sadly also forced to withdraw from Sunday night's Dancing On Ice instalment.

This Morning continues weekdays at 10am on ITV.
