The Masked Singer’s Davina McCall teases insane series: I was confused for five weeks

Having revealed the line-up for the upcoming 2022 series, The Masked Singer UK's comeback is well underway.

The ITV series – which sees celebrities conceal their identities in bizarre costumes while audiences furiously try to guess who it is from their singing performances and cryptic clues – has been a huge hit thus far.

And, according to Davina McCall – one quarter of the star-studded judging panel – fans of the show are in for a real treat this time around.

"The costumes are insane," she told OK! and other media outlets. "I mean, there's a costume where I was confused for at least maybe five weeks as to whether they were a man or a woman."

Davina continued: "I mean, every time they sang, I would be like, 'is that a man or a woman?' That's how good they were. Also, for quite a while on the first time I saw them, I was like, 'is there one or two people in that costume?'"

The Masked Singer UK will once again be hosted by Joel Dommett. He added: "It's one of the biggest. It's the biggest costume I think we've ever had in terms of technicality. Apparently it took like three people to get the costume off it's so huge."

Davina went on to say: "I don’t know how they walked. And they had this amazing walk, which was like a robot. I thought, 'Oh, this is part of the character.' But now I'm thinking they just literally couldn't walk as it was so big."

Davina will once again be joined on the panel by Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan.

The show recently revealed the 12 new characters who will be battling it out on stage in a bid to be crowned the winner. Among them are Traffic Cone, Firework, Lionfish and Bagpipes.

And, as ever, Davina assures us that guessing who's who won't be easy.

"What happens is that we start guessing something and then the next week, the producers plant clues could either be the person we think it is or the actual person inside the costume.

"So we slightly get led off down a completely different path and become absolutely convinced that it is one person when it's another."

She continued: "I prefer it when I don't know. And I'm not just saying that because I am universally bad at this. I find it more fun when they take off that mask and I go, 'WHAT?!'"
