Strictly Come Dancing hopes to feature all-male couple for the first time this year

STRICTLY hopes to feature an all-male couple for the first time this year.

It plans to secure a high-profile gay or bisexual star to make up half the show’s second same-sex pairing.

Westlife singer Mark Feehily, 40, is an early front-runner to join the celebrity line-up after previously expressing his interest.

It comes after double Olympic boxing champ Nicola Adams, 38, and pro dancer Katya Jones, 31, made history last time as the BBC1 show’s first same-sex duo.

Strictly would follow ITV’s Dancing on Ice after Steps singer Ian “H” Watkins, 44, was paired with pro skater Matt Evers, 45, last year.

A production source said: “Strictly bosses are keen to keep the momentum going after their historical all-female pairing last year.

"They want to be as progressive and inclusive as possible and think it would be great to include a same-sex male couple.

“It’s been done before on Dancing on Ice and all the pros are on board with the move.

"They’d all love to get creative with choreography and help break down boundaries.”

Speaking last month, Irish star Mark said: “It was fantastic to see a same sex couple. I’d love to see two men dance on the show.”

Strictly‘s gay male professional Johannes Radebe, 33, and fellow pro Graziano Di Prima, 26, danced together to a performance by singer Emeli Sande on a 2019 results show.

South African Johannes said at the time: “I’ve never felt so liberated. For the first time in my life, I feel accepted for who I am.

“That says so much about the people of this country. To be able to dance with a friend I respect and adore is joyous.”
