Dan Walker is one of the celebrity contestants vying to win the Glitterball Trophy in this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing. The 44-year-old presenter is managing to balance dance rehearsals around his BBC Breakfast schedule. However, when he was probed about his Strictly competition, Dan admitted he finds 26-year-old Adam Peaty “intimidating”.

Presenters Janette Manrara and Gethin Jones could not resist asking Dan about how Strictly Come Dancing is going during Morning Live.

The ballroom dance competition kicked off on BBC One last weekend where viewers got to see which professional dancers the celebrity contestants would be paired up with.

Janette and Gethin have their sights set on Olympian Adam Peaty doing particularly well in the competition after airing footage from his first dance with professional partner Katya Jones.

Gethin said: “To me [Adam] looks like one of the strongest competitors in the competition. Would you agree with that?”

Janette, who has appeared on Strictly Come Dancing as a professional dancer and is married to pro Aljaž Škorjanec, replied: “I think so, I like that move they did.”

BBC Breakfast host Sally Nugent interrupted the Morning Live presenters as she was hosting the news programme next to Dan.

Sally joked: “We don’t talk about Adam here, we just don’t mention him – ever.”

Dan, who is paired up with professional dancer Nadiya Bychkova, said: “Every time I see him in the Strictly corridor he’s got his top off – he’s very intimidating.”

Janette and Gethin laughed about Dan’s concerns and said that they could imagine how he felt.

Dan joked: “It’s just like how you start Morning Live Gethin.”

A flattered Gethin replied: “Thanks Dan – you’ve got my vote now.”

Dan then explained everyone competing in this year’s Strictly is genuinely getting on “very well”

Earlier this week Dan revealed dancer Nadiya, 32, was “a big hit” with his family after he introduced her to them.

Dan explained on social media that during a break from dance training, he took the opportunity to show Nadiya around his hometown of Sheffield.

He told his 216,000 Instagram followers their day consisted of a trip to his hairdresser, before heading back to his home for dinner, prepared by his wife Sarah Walker.

Nadiya met Sarah and the couple’s children, daughters Susanna and Jessica, and son Joe, alongside their beloved pet dog Winnie.

Dan is competing against the likes of rugby legend Ugo Monye, who is known for being a panellist on A Question of Sport, McFly frontman Tom Fletcher and Gordon Ramsay’s daughter Tilly Ramsay.

This year, professional dancer Anton Du Beke has replaced Bruno Tonioli as the fourth judge. He will be scoring the contestants each week alongside Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Craig Revel Horwood.

Despite only being a week into the show, the series has already been hit by a handful of blows, with the contest bringing in its lowest ratings for some years combined with reports that a number of stars have “refused” the coronavirus vaccine.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One on Saturdays at 7pm.
