'Stranger Things 4' Teaser: Fans Are Underwhelmed, Assume 1 Major Villain's Return

“Eleven, are you listening?” Dr. Martin Brenner asks in the new Stranger Things Season 4 trailer. After months of silence, fans finally have another clue about what’s going on in the new season. But for many, Netflix‘s latest teaser just wasn’t enough. Find out why Stranger Things fans are disappointed in the trailer, despite the major clue dropped about the new season.

Eleven from ‘Stranger Things’ is the subject of the teaser trailer

The latest teaser for Stranger Things is a flashback to Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) days with Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine). Fans expect the new season to explore more of Eleven’s origin story and the several other supernatural children featured in the trailer.

Technically the new trailer is the second one released for the fourth season of Stranger Things. The first was released in February 2020 and promised the previously presumed dead Chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) would appear in season 4.

Fans can expect two more teasers in the future. The caption for the latest teaser reads: “002/004,” leading many to believe season 4 will have four trailers in total.

‘Stranger Things’ fans are underwhelmed by the teaser for season 4

As exciting as it is to get another clue into the new season, many Stranger Things fans weren’t too hyped about the teaser trailer. Most fans were confused about what the teaser even means.

“I was expecting something more,” one fan commented on Reddit. “I’m kinda disappointed.” With the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic at play, some fans are convinced there’s not enough footage to give more of a trailer at this time. Others think there’s plenty, but showrunners just don’t want to reveal it.

“They probably do have enough content,” writes one fan, adding:

We already know they filmed two episodes a long time ago. They released the Hopper teaser over a year ago now. They said filming [would] probably be done in the summer, June is next month. They’re definitely sitting on more content than this.

Dr. Martin Brenner is back — maybe

While the Stranger Things trailer is clearly a flashback, Brenner could still show up in season 4. Though the mad scientist was thought to be killed by the Demogorgon in season 1, seasons 2 and 3 hinted that he was still alive.

“Brenner is 100 percent alive,” said one fan. That’s the consensus among many fans. “This short teaser has me very excited,” wrote another. “Brenner, the lab — we may finally be filling in some of the details.”

“Eleven lost her Powers; I think Brenner will play an important role in getting her powers back,” another fan points out. “But he’s most likely a villain, so I wonder how would the equation between Eleven & Brenner’s will go in S4.”

‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 release date

While fans were excited about the teaser, most of them want details about the season 4 release of Stranger Things. “GIVE US A DATE YOU COWARDS” was on fan’s reaction to the lack of a date.

At this time, Netflix hasn’t announced when the new season of Stranger Things will come out. Stay tuned to Showbiz Cheat Sheet for updates on Stranger Things Season 4.
