Spoilers: Joy for Ben and Callum in EastEnders as his hearing returns?

Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) was eagerly awaiting his hearing operation in EastEnders, and when the soap returns, it becomes apparent that said operation has already taken place.

Ben experienced additional hearing loss after hitting his head against the boat amid the crash in February.

He’s struggled to come to terms with said hearing loss, and eagerly awaited the operation to have a cochlear implant fitted.

In the episode prior to the hiatus, the young man collapsed from a fever, and revealed to Jay (Jamie Borthwick) that he couldn’t hear anything.

However, a trip to the hospital revealed that his hearing in his left ear would return, as his ear drum had been perforated following an altercation with Danny Hardcastle (Paul Usher).

As the soap returns, it becomes apparent that Ben has had the procedure to have the implant fitted, and the first episode (September 7) will see the day of the implant switch on arrive.

Callum (Tony Clay) has made clear that he intends to be there, as he refuses to miss such a thing — no matter how busy he is.

However, an incident at work — once which could implicate Ben in a crime — results in him being late to the hospital, but he does manage to make it there on time.

Yes, Callum arrives for the switch on.

Will Ben be able to hear those around him?

It would seem that this will be the case, as a trailer last week revealed that Ben can hear Callum.

EastEnders returns Monday September 7 at 8.05pm on BBC One.
