Richard Madeley lets slip Piers Morgan planned to leave Good Morning Britain for two months BEFORE shock exit in March
RICHARD Madeley has appeared to let slip that Piers Morgan planned to leave Good Morning Britain for two months BEFORE his shock exit in March.
The 65-year-old star joined Charlotte Hawkins to host the ITV breakfast show today, which is when he dropped the bombshell.
Kicking off the programme, Richard remarked that he hadn't been in the studio since March 2020.
He went on: "I was meant to come back in April and May because Piers was meant to be going to America.
"So I would have been sitting alongside you quite a lot then, but all that went west and here I am."
While it appears that Richard was referencing April and May 2021, it is not entirely clear if he actually meant last year.
Either way, it is likely that the plans fell apart due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic putting restrictions on international travel.
Piers sensationally quit Good Morning Britain back in March after he refused to apologise for comments made about Meghan Markle following her and Prince Harry's bombshell Oprah interview.
Ever since, various stars have joined his former colleagues to co-host the show, including Alastair Campbell and Bill Turnbull.
At the weekend, Piers told The Sun that producers are desperate for him to return due to GMB's plummeting ratings.
In an exclusive interview, the outspoken presenter explained: “I have had some quite random third-party feelers put out to see if I would consider a return to the show.
“I don’t want to say on the record who, but a pretty close third-party . . .
“As the Americans say, they reached out — there have been approaches to test the water in the wake of their obvious ratings issues.
“It makes me sad to see all the hard work we did to beat the BBC in viewing numbers evaporate so fast. It’s their problem to work out . . . but never say never.”
Piers had co-hosted the show alongside Susanna Reid for five years before his exit, which came following an explosive on-air clash with co-star Alex Beresford.
