Pirates of the Caribbean: Johnny Depp character KILLED OFF to make way for new generation?

Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the most successful franchises in Disney’s repertoire. Johnny Depp stunned audiences with his incredibly nuanced performance as Captain Jack Sparrow throughout the first five films. Unfortunately, it seems as if Sparrow’s time as the world’s greatest pirate could be over.

In recent months, it has been rumoured that Depp was actually dropped from the Disney franchise, in part due to his ongoing legal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard.

Since then, a number of reports have surfaced telling of brand new cast members being brought on to the next Pirates of the Caribbean project.

These actors include Harley Quinn star Margot Robbie, and Nebula star Karen Gillen.

While nothing else has been revealed just yet about the next step for Captain Jack Sparrow, fans are a little worried.

Disney themselves have not officially come out of the woodwork and announced the end of Depp’s time in the Pirates films.

But, considering how publics and messy his ongoing trial is, anything is possible.

This begs the question: Will Captain Jack Sparrow be killed off in Pirates of the Caribbean 6?

Of course, Captain Jack Sparrow is the face of the franchise, but if Disney are eager to usher in a new collection of pirates for the franchise – including Robbie and Gillen – Sparrow would have to make way for them.

With fans hopeful that Depp will make a return to the franchise, it would make sense for him to welcome these new recruits personally on screen.

However, if he does this, Sparrow may not last very long.

Seeing the death of Jack Sparrow would certainly put an end to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise as fans know it, and bring about the next generation of fans.

However, it could be a risky move, as Depp is, again, the face of the franchise, and killing him off could ostracise the current enormous fanbase.

Jerry Bruckheimer spoke out earlier in the year about the next script for the film.

He told Collider: “We’re working on a draft right now and hopefully we’ll get it shortly and give it to Disney and hopefully they’ll like it. We don’t know. We’ve been working on it for a little bit.”

On the possibility of Depp’s return, he confessed: “The one we’re developing right now, we’re not sure quite what Johnny’s role is going to be. So, we’re going to have to see.”

In the meantime rumours have been circulating about Depp joining the Marvel franchise going forward.

According to some sources, Depp is apparently eyeing up a Marvel role in the supposedly upcoming reboot of the Ghost Rider franchise.

In the reboot, Depp is reportedly looking to take on a more villainous role, working directly against the titular ghostly Hell’s angel.

The role he is eyeing up is supposedly that of Bounty Hunter, a hugely important role in the Marvel narrative.

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is available to watch on Disney Plus.
