Phillip Schofield cried all the way down motorway following family milestone

This Morning star Phillip Schofield has revealed he "cried all the way down the motorway" when his children went to university.

The TV star has two grown up daughters – Molly and Ruby – with his wife Steph, who he is still very close to after coming out as gay in 2020 after several years of marriage.

And he confessed the pair struggled when their girls moved out of home and went off to study at Leeds.

Schofield, 60, opened up on This Morning as he and his co-host Holly Willoughby talked to guests about dropping off their children on the first day of school.

The star shared that the flood of emotions didn't really change as his kids got older.

"It never went away," he said.

"Because when we dropped both of ours off at university the first time they were both off at Leeds together, we got in the car and cried all the way down the motorway."

"That's a long cry!" he joked.

Phillip tied the knot with Stephanie in 1993 after they had been dating for a while.

Two years ago he came out after 27 years of marriage and revealed that Steph, Molly, 28, and Ruby, 26, had been very supportive of him.

And Steph said that she would be "holding his hand" after the TV star made the decision to speak out about his sexuality.

She told The Sun: "I love Phillip, as much today as I ever have, and always will."

"We've been awestruck by the strength and love of our precious girls, even as they've been trying to make sense of it all for themselves," she went on.

Steph added: "Although this is difficult for us all, I support Phillip in taking this brave step."
