Outlander explained: Was Claire actually attracted to Jamie before they were married?
Outlander: Jamie sees Claire in vision he has after battle
Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) had an unconventional start as a couple. Outlander viewers will remember how the pair were forced to marry for Claire to be safe from Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) who was vying for her arrest. However, some will be wondering when feelings emerged for the pair in the show.
In season one of Outlander, viewers will remember how Jamie and Claire’s relationship first began.
Claire mysteriously fell through the stones at Craigh na Dun and was transported from the 1940s to 18th century Scotland.
Here she was taken in by a group of highlanders, including Jamie, who she told she had been widowed.
However, Claire found herself as a target for the dastardly Black Jack, which then left her no other option than to marry again.

This was because she needed to be officially recognised as Scottish to avoid his reach.
Claire and Jamie then wed in an emotional ceremony before beginning their life together as husband and wife.
Given the marriage was one of necessity, rather than love, fans would be forgiven for wondering when exactly feelings emerged.
This is especially the case as their marriage later developed into a deep love which survived 20 years apart.
Some fans recently discussed this on Reddit, with many pointing out how this plot point varies to the books.
User Hopefully987 wrote: “I got the distinct feeling in the book that Claire wasn’t really attracted to Jamie prior to the wedding.
“It was like he was just there and nice to her but then suddenly they got married and he is the hottest thing since sliced bread. I haven’t read it for a while but is that your impression?
“I actually prefer the sort of longing looks she gives him pre-wedding in the show. The chemistry is great. Thoughts?”

However, others felt her feelings for Jamie were there earlier than this in both the books and the series.
Clarkycat8998 replied: “I think she’s in denial for a fair bit of time, even after they’ve married and gone through a few things together.
“It’s only after the witch trial and him taking her to the stones that she finally admits even to herself that she loves him.
“It must have been incredibly confusing to be fair, she’s reminding herself that she loves Frank (Menzies) and not allowing herself to lead Jamie on by saying she loves him.
“But she definitely fancies him, she’s jealous of Laoghaire (Nell Hudson) when she sees them kissing.”
Another user named Fanimal86 added: “I have wondered how Claire describes Jamie in the book and if she is attracted to him before they marry.
“It’s hard to imagine Claire not being at least tempted by Jamie since he is supposed to be extremely handsome.”
Feelings do clearly develop between the pair throughout the series but it is debatable when exactly they emerge.
As well as this, it is only in season one, episode 12 when the couple actually admit they are in love with each other after they have arrived at Jamie’s family home of Lallybroch.
Although, despite when it happened, it’s clear their love has lasted a long time with five seasons already available to watch – and more on their way.
Outlander seasons 1-5 are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
