Nigella Lawson fans baffled by ‘abominable’ secret ingredient in her roast potatoes
NIGELLA Lawson’s odd recipe of sweet potatoes with marshmallows has been blasted by foodies.
The 61-year-old, know as the Domestic Goddess, has come under intense scrutiny for an old recipe that has come to light.
In her best-selling cookbook Feast, Nigella writes about cooking sweet potatoes with marshmallows – but it hasn’t gone down well with fans.
The curvy cook writes in her 2004 book: “The American tradition of cooking sweet potatoes with marshmallows is a bit of a leap for the European reader, but it always pays to keep an open mind.
"I find myself strangely compelled by the luscious, syrupy purée, just tangy enough with lime to find a workable partnership with the white dots of marshmallow, tortoiseshelled by the heat of the oven.”
Fans of the chef have since taken to Twitter to air their disgust at the American-inspired recipe, with many dubbing it as the “most disgusting thing” they’ve ever seen.
Alongside a sad-faced emoji, one person fumed: “I see this and my heart flutters… into a full cardiac arrest.”
Someone else said: “Sorry, but I’ll have to pass on this recipe – not a fan of sweet potato at the best of times. Surely this combination was discovered accidentally.”
“Why would anyone think to put sweet potato and marshmallow together? If you think it looks vile, then just imagine the taste. Clueless.”
Nigella also came under the spotlight this month after it was revealed that her curves had to be digitally tamed on a Christmas photoshoot to be more family-friendly.
The mother-of-two had her dress photoshopped on the front cover of Good Housekeeping Magazine.

It is not known if Nigella, whose hourglass physique has been named Britain’s most coveted female body, was made aware of the changes.
A source said: “Nigella’s a beautiful woman, and looked stunning in the shoot.
"The stylist had chosen an Emelia Wickstead dress for her but unfortunately it was quite a puffy, billowy number which made Nigella look rather too booby."
