Mirzapur season two debuted on Amazon Prime Video back in 2019 and became an instant success. Season three was commissioned very quickly and now fans are eager about the future of the drama. Express.co.uk has the lowdown on what will happen next in the Indian gangster drama series.

WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from Mirzapur seasons 1 &2

When will Mirzapur season 3 be released?

Season one of Mirzapur came out in November 2018 with all nine episodes dropping at once.

However, there was almost a two-year wait for season two, amid reports of delays before finally arriving in October 2020 with 10 new episodes.

Season three’s release date is hard to predict because of the delay between the first two outings but the earliest the show could return to Amazon Prime Video could be 2021.

But nothing has been confirmed and the status of the coronavirus pandemic sweeping the globe will impact production on the series.

Amazon Prime Video gave season three the official go-ahead in November 2020 after Mirzapur became the most-watched series on the streaming platform in India, beating the likes of Breathe and Inside Edge.

Amazon executive Aparna Purohit said in a statement via Businessworld: “The overwhelming response on the new season of Mirzapur is a testament to our commitment and efforts.

“Over the last two years, viewers continued to engage with the immersive universe of Mirzapur and its characters.

“Our collaboration with Excel Media and Entertainment has always been wonderful and we are happy to share this success with them.”

While producer Ritesh Sidhwani said: “Across two gripping seasons, Mirzapur has become a global sensation and we couldn’t be happier associating with Amazon Prime Video to make this happen.

“The show’s massive fandom and the viewers’ magnitude of love towards the new season was seen through reactions on social media within days of its release, and we are truly humbled by the response.”

According to star Ali Fazal, who is better known as Guddu Pandit, work will be starting “soon” but the actor couldn’t elaborate on a possible date.

Dugal exclusively shared an update about filming on season three with Express.co.uk.

However, Express.co.uk will update this article when more information is available.

Who is in the cast of Mirzapur season 3?

The main cast will be returning to the series with Victoria and Abdul actor Fazal reprising his role as Guddu after finally taking revenge on the Tripathis and becoming the king of Mirzapur.

Joining him will be Shweta Tripathi Sharma as Golu Tripathi as she too also came out on top and avenged the death of her sister.

Veteran actor Pankaj Tripathi – star of Sacred Games and Gangs of Wasseypur – is going to be returning as dethroned kingpin Kaleen Bhaiya.

Also, back in the frame will be Delhi Crime and A Suitable Boy’s Rasika Dugal as Beena Tripathi, Extraction’s Priyanshu Painyuli as Robin, Anjum Sharma as Sharad Shukla and Vijay Varma as Choti Tyagi.

There are likely to be some new faces added into the mix as season three will see fresh players added to the game.

Sadly, unless there is some sort of miracle, Divyenndu won’t be returning as Munna Tripathi after he was shot in the chest in the finale.

Neither will Kulbhushan Kharbanda, who left the cast as Bauji Tripathi after his character was killed off.

Some viewers are still curious why Vikrant Massey left as Bablu and others want to know why Shriya Pilgaonkar departed as Sweety Gupta.

Amit Sial was also killed off as the righteous cop Maurya, who met a sticky end in the season two finale.

Others are wondering what happened to Shabnam’s dad Lala (Anil George), who was working with Guddu against the Tripathis.

Fans are curious to know why Nagendra Pratap Singh Verma left as the sexologist in the show after getting brutally killed.

What will happen in Mirzapur season 3?

There have been many rumours floating about regarding season three with some suggesting Robin’s true identity is going to impact on the power struggle for Mirzapur.

Some still believe Munna is alive and is going to come back in some form or another.

Others think Munna could be the real father of Beena’s baby but this remains to be seen.

Either way, there will be a huge fallout when Kaleen Bhaiya’s enemies discover he is still very much alive, considering he was betrayed by his wife Beena.

Maqbool is also likely to be under fire for helping Beena and some are wondering if he will return, while other viewers are curious about whether Bauji is the father of her child.

Guddu will find himself under fire after becoming the new king of Mirzapur with others eager to take power from him with some believing he could die.

The Tyagis are also likely to have a bigger role in season three with some wondering if Golu could be killed off as well as if Chote survived the shootout.

Fazal told Filmfare in a recent interview: “Now, we have a bigger challenge – to outdo the last two seasons. I will get busy with other projects now, but we plan to shoot soon.”

Sharad is going to become a huge force to be reckoned with and there could be a big power struggle as he tries to fulfil his father’s legacy by taking over Mirzapur.

Actress Dugal has also addressed whether her character could be killed off in the third outing with some wondering whether Beena and Munna had an affair.

Some are curious to know about whether Sharad will become the king of Mirzapur in the third series.

Fans are also curious to know what happened to Kaleen Bhaiya’s first wife.

Others are keen to know more about Isha Talwar and whether she will return as Madhuri Yadav.

More recently, Lalit actor Brahma Mishra was found dead at his home amid health issues. Although his character met his demise in season two, the third outing could pay tribute to the late star.

Is there a trailer for Mirzapur season 3?

As the show has only just been renewed, there’s no trailer or footage at the moment.

Additionally, production hasn’t started yet but once filming does begin, there could be some teasers dropping.

Any trailers will land closer to the release date, but the cast and crew are likely to be sharing shots from the set once work begins.
