'Million Dollar Listing New York': Tyler Whitman Goes for the Big Fish This Season (Exclusive)
Tyler Whitman from Million Dollar Listing New York revealed that season 9 will show him going for the bigger clients and taking more risks.
He also shared that the filming schedule was prolonged this season, spanning over a year and a half which means fans will see the full evolution of the market shutdown and emergence. But he dished that despite market uncertainly, viewers will see him truly come into his own, take more risks and go for the bigger clients.
New year, new Tyler on ‘Million Dollar Listing’
Whitman discussed market conditions with Showbiz Cheat Sheet in August. “It feels like there’s this kind of unity when you’re walking down the street,” he said about the city. “But honestly, real estate is very down and it’s very challenging, but there are actually a lot of buyers who are being brave and know it’s actually really smart to take advantage of these really good opportunities.”
He added, “I would actually say, I still feel like this year is easier than last year to work,” he remarked. “Because last year, the biggest issue was that the market had really, really slowed down. But sellers were not accepting the reality.”
And while brokers grappled with how to pivot, Whitman had somewhat of a Renaissance. “The big thing that happened at the end of last season for me was that I finally gained the confidence to go for that big listing,” he recalled.
“And then once I did that succeeded, it unlocked a different side of me that people are going to see this season,” he said. “You know, I became much more confident, I became much more certain of what I was capable of. And I really started to take some risks and really go for it and it pays off. It also puts me in some uncomfortable situations. And so I think you’re going to see both sides. You’re going to see me have some really special victories and you’re going to see me learn some lessons and you’re going to see me have some uncomfortable encounters. And you’re also going to see me have some really special encounters. There’s a little bit of everything.”
‘Million Dollar Listing New York’ filming occurred for more than a year
During season 9 premiere day, Whitman said on his Instagram story that filming commenced in January 2020. “I can’t believe that today is the day that you’re gonna see me on Million Dollar Listing,” he gleefully sang. “But y’all we’ve been filming this season for a year and a half. We started in January of 2020. When none of us knew what coronavirus even was … and then we learned exactly what it was on camera.” He added that he was really excited that the season is finally going to air.
Whitman said viewers will witness the pandemic’s fallout in New York, which was initially the hardest-hit area. “Well, I mean, we started filming before the pandemic,” he explained. “So you’re going to see a real evolution. I think that’s one of the things that’s really exciting about this season is, you know, we were filming before the pandemic hit and then you’re going to see the hardest times of filming during the most uncertain times of the pandemic into where things are now.”
“I think that’s going to be one of the things that makes this season just so special is that there’s a true revolution that happens,” he added. “Because New York City out of all the real estate markets in the country, New York City really got hit the hardest. And now we’re experiencing a comeback. And I’m really grateful that filming went on long enough that you get to see a little bit of everything.”
Million Dollar Listing New York is on Thursday at 9/8c on Bravo.
