Megan Barton Hanson says she split with Wes Nelson after he put money and his career above their relationship
MEGAN-Barton Hanson said she split with Wes Nelson after he put money and his career above their relationship.
The Love Island beauty, 26, split with the hunk, 22, last year after meeting on the show in 2018.
Despite previously saying they split due to being at different stages in their life, Megan now said it was down to Wes' focus on making money.
Speaking on the Independent's Millennial Love podcast, the star said: "I don’t have a bad word to say about him but that relationship broke down ultimately because of our priorities.
"So he was very career-driven, taking every job under the sun and rightly so.
"But because I’d already experienced having money fairly easy with the stripping, I was more dedicated and focused on the relationship, so it’s super hard to get that balance just right and work together."
The pair split in February 2019 after saying they were "different stages" in their lives.
She told Grazia at the time: "It all ended very amicably.
"I really love Wes as a person, but we realised we are in very different stages of our lives and our priorities are different.
"I’m 24 and by the time I’m 30 I want to be engaged. Wes is only 20. He’s living his best life."
The reality star also insisted that she once believed that Wes was "the one" – and that she is "disappointed" for their fans who had been rooting for their relationship since the pair met on Love Island.
Megan also revealed on the podcast why she didn't immediately come out as bisexual.
The star surprised fans on Celebs Go Dating last year when she started dating Towie's Demi Sims – and even attended the show's finale party with her.
Megan revealed it was when she bumped into Dr Alex – who she describes as "straight-laced" – and was forced to tell him she was a stripper.
She said: "So from that point I thought, ‘oh god, I’m going to be perceived as really sexual, I’m probably going to get slut-shamed on the outside world'.
"So I didn’t want to add to that and be like, 'oh I like girls too'.
"It took me so long to come out because I worked in the sex industry because I didn’t want it to be for the male gaze, or for people to think, oh she’s doing it for attention, or to seem more appealing to men.
"That is the furthest thing from the truth so that’s why I kept it so quiet until I went on another show [Celebs Go Dating] and I didn’t really want to do the show.
"I was struggling to meet gay girls. It’s so hard when you’re into feminine girls and you’re feminine yourself, it’s really hard to navigate who is gay and who’s not. So it thought, this show is perfect, they can go and get me some cute girls."
As well as previously working as a stripper, Megan also has an OnlyFans account, which she promotes on her Instagram.
