Alex Jones lets Roman Kemp’s ‘secret’ slip live on air

Roman Kemp has officially been announced as Matt Baker’s replacement on The One Show.

The presenter joined the BBC magazine show as a stand-in host alongside Alex Jones but he will now been a permanent fixture on the iconic sofa.

He joins both Alex and Jermaine Jenas, who started fronting the show in 2020.

Roman said: “I’m very excited to become a permanent presenter on The One Show, I have had so much fun filming with the team already over the past year on the sofa.

“It’s a dream-come true to be on prime-time BBC One, bringing the best topical news and entertainment to the nation.”

Lauren Laverne has also been given a regular spot on the sofa, with former Boyzone star Ronan Keating remaining a key part of The One Show family and continuing to host shows.

Ronan Keating added: “I have loved being part of The One Show presenting team and I’ve had the best few years working alongside Alex, Jermaine and the whole team.

“I’ll be doing less shows this year due to my performing and recording schedule but I’m still very much part of the family and wish Roman the best of luck.”

Joanne Vaughan-Jones, Editor of The One Show, said: “We’re thrilled to have Roman join us as a regular One Show host alongside Alex and Jermaine on the sofa.

“It’s an exciting new chapter for the show, and we’re looking forward to viewers seeing even more of Roman.”

Matt presented The One Show from 2011 to 2020 when he decided to move back to County Durham to support his parents on their farm.

He made a series out of the life-changing transition in 2021 called Our Farm in the Dales.

Speaking on This Morning, he said at the time: “It’s been quite an eventful few months and to be honest with you it was a programme that was never really pitched, it just evolved from the situation that we found ourselves in because of my mum’s accident.”

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
