Masked Singer UK bosses forced to change clues as fans Google tricky answers

Masked Singer bosses have had to make sure their cryptic clues don’t give the game away – after they made a huge blunder.

Last year when they gave out teasers about The Fox, they stated the celebrity inside the costume collected tea pots.

Within minutes fans went on Google and discovered this was Denise Van Outen ’s hobby – and unmasked her before the TV panel did.

Now Derek McLean from Bandicoot TV, who make the show, admitted they learned a valuable lesson.

He explained: “We thought it was a great clue and no one would pick up on it. Turns out if you Google ‘Denise Van Outen and teapots’ it’s there in loads of articles.

“It was a massive learning curve. Everything is findable.

“If you think you can Google the answer now it’s not going to be there.

“People might say our clues are tough but we love all the mad guessing.

“Everyone might want them to be like the quick crossword in The Times but what we are is the cryptic crossword in The Telegraph.”

His colleague Dan Nettleton claims although fans reckon their clues are “tough and fiendish”, the latest series must be easier.

He added: “More names are out there on social media this year than last year. People have cracked many of them.”

However he teased: “There is one celebrity that no one has got yet. People are miles away from guessing it.”

The Masked Singer is on Saturday on ITV at 7pm.
