The final eight episodes of Lucifer’s thrilling fifth season were finally confirmed to be returning to Netflix on Friday, May 28. Until then, some tantalising tidbits from the next instalment have been teased on Twitter, including a long awaited showcase for the show’s problematic fave, Dan Espinoza (played by Kevin Alejandro).

Detective ‘Douche’ Dan Espinoza will have some major moments in the upcoming second half of Lucifer’s fifth season.

The penultimate instalment of the series will finally return for Part Two at the end of May after a hiatus of several months.

In the meantime, TV journalist Damian Holbrook has managed to get his hands on special access to the new episodes.

As the wait for season 5b continues, Holbrook has taken to Twitter to voice his stunned responses to some of the best moments from episodes 9-16.

Among his social media sneak peeks, he recently confirmed Dan Espinoza fans are in for a treat when they reach episode 12, ‘Daniel Espinoza: Naked and Afraid’.

He teased: “512 is the long-overdue Dan showcase. Alejandro is fantastic at mixing tough guy and goofy.”

The episode’s rather bizarre title had already tipped off ‘Lucifans’ to expect some hilarious moments with Dan, the long term office rival of Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis).

At the end of the first half of season five, Dan had finally turned on Lucifer after a run-in with his scheming evil twin brother, Michael.

Thankfully, after learning the devil’s true identity, the misunderstanding was quickly cleared up and Dan and Lucifer went back to being best frenemies.

Often used as Lucifer’s long-suffering punching bag, Dan departed somewhat from his usual role as a comedic supporting character in season five.

When the series returns, it appears it won’t be long until Kevin Alejandro gets to show off his acting chops in some of Lucifer’s more dramatic sequences.

Following the latest season five teaser, fans took to the Twitter comments to show their support for Alejandro’s performances on Lucifer and beyond.

One viewer replied: “I loved him in True Blood. He’s a hot, talented actor.”

And another added: “I loved his performance in 504, [‘It Never Ends Well for the Chicken’].”

In this special, 1940s noir themed episode, Dan got the chance to portray a different character during Lucifer’s story told to his daughter, Trixie Espinoza (Scarlett Estevez).

The second half of season five is also set to play around with the show’s style, with 510’s musical extravaganza giving the cast the chance to put their best foot forward.

After that, expect some hilarious and dramatic moments from Dan Espinoza now the combative detective is finally part of Team Lucifer.

In the same episode, Holbrook also teased: “There is a sight gag at the end of #lucifer 512 that can only be the result of divine inspiration.”

Season five took a dramatic turn with the arrival of Lucifer’s father, God (Dennis Haysbert), but fans will be relieved to know the series has managed to retain its dark sense of humour for the upcoming climax.

Lucifer season 5, part 2 will be released Friday, May 28 on Netflix.
