After an explosive finale in May, Lucifer will finally return to Netflix with their highly anticipated sixth season. Ahead of its release showrunner Ildy Modrovich opened up about the iconic scene they had to fight to keep in the series.
Throughout the procedural series, there were many unexpected yet welcomed scenes which kept fans hooked and tuning in every week.
Season one saw Lucifer Morningstar (played by Tom Ellis) descend to earth from hell for a fresh start after he grew bored of being the devil.
He arrived in Los Angeles, where he opened the nightclub Lux, but after a murder occurred at his establishment he used his unearthly skills to solve the case and joined the LAPD.
Lucifer then met homicide detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German) during the investigation and he took a romantic liking to her.
As the supernatural series progressed there was an insane amount of famous guest stars many viewers recognised.
Cameos from the princess of darkness Sharon Osborne, 80’s icon Debbie Gibson and Top Chef winner Michael Voltaggio.
Surprisingly, it was the ninth episode from season one the show’s producers wanted to cut from the series.
It showed Lucifer sharing an intimate moment with guest star Coleman Domingo who played a priest named Frank Lawrence.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, actors Tom Ellis, Lauren German and showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson, sat down with Chancellor Agard for a segment of Around The Table.
During the conversation, they were asked which episode they would revisit and the Lucifer star revealed Priest Walks Into a Bar was his favourite episode.
In the episode, Lucifer and Chloe were tasked with protecting the priest after someone made an attempt on his life.
While the pair hid him at Lux, Frank and Lucifer shared a fun moment when they performed a duet on the piano together.
Speaking on the piano moment Tom shared: “That, to me, was a real, huge moment in the show, and it really showed how different this show could be to what you expect it to be.”
He explained: “It was just a genuine moment, Colman and I were just given a track of music to do something with, and it was an absolute blessing that Colman Domingo came and guested on our show.
“That’s a moment I will always go back to and think, ‘I don’t think I’ve ever been more euphoric on a set of anything, doing that,’” Tom added.
The actor concluded: “There’s been moments since then where we’ve done musical numbers and stuff and it’s been amazing, I remember it being the first time. It was like, ‘Wow, this is really special.’”
Ildy made a surprising revelation and confessed their performance scene was the one she fought to keep.
She said: “People wanted to cut it because nothing was happening,” she added, “And we were like, ‘But there is something happening there. They’re bonding. It’s beautiful.’”
Ildy disclosed: “Our producing team agreed with us on so many things, but that was one issue that we really went head-to-head on.”
Fans will have to tune in to the all-new season of Lucifer to see if there will be more special musical moments and keep their eyes peeled for surprise celebrity cameos.
Lucifer season 6 will be released on Friday, September 10 on Netflix. Lucifer seasons 1-3 are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. Lucifer seasons 4-5 are available to stream on Netflix.
