Kate Beckinsale reveals she lost a baby at 20 weeks pregnant as she supports Chrissy Teigen after baby death
KATE Beckinsale has revealed she lost a baby at 20 weeks pregnant as she spoke out in support of Chrissy Teigen after the death of her baby son.
The Underworld actress, 47, shared her tragic story on Instagram today in response to criticism of Chrissy and husband John Legend for sharing photos from their traumatic labour.
She wrote: "I’ve noticed people criticizing @chrissyteigen for sharing deeply intimate photos of the loss of her baby. As if there’s some protocol during soul-scouring calamity that, if not observed, emboldens people who do not know her or her family to say how she should be handling the unimaginable.
"Years ago, I lost a baby at 20 weeks. I had managed to keep my pregnancy quiet and I absolutely collapsed inside and no one would have known.
"There is grief, shame and shock so often that come with an experience like this, plus the heartbreak of your body continuing, after the loss, to act as if it had a child to nurture. Your milk comes in, with no one to feed.
"It can be the loneliest, most soul destroying period of time, particularly if you are not in the position of having an emotionally connected, supportive partner like Chrissy has."
The Brit star has a 21-year-old daughter called Lily with her ex Michael Sheen.
She divorced fimmaker husband Len Wiseman last November four years after they split following an 11 year romance.
Sending her love to the couple, she then said it was entirely up to them how they chose to grieve.
She continued: "I think it’s an honour to be allowed into another persons grief, especially with a subject like this which so often puts a woman into that hall of mirrors state of life continuing as if the world hasn’t, for you ,come to a bloody and terrible halt.
"Sending so much love to the Legend family, but also so much to the women and couples who have kept it quiet and suffered. I know there are so many. Thank you @chrissyteigen for making sure it is abundantly clear how devastating this is, and how life changing it can be without support.
"Let’s let the grieving decide what’s right for them. Send support or keep quiet . This is a really hard time to bear .Blessings and hugs to all x."
There was an outpouring of support for Kate for sharing her story as well asChrissy and John for their loss.
However, some still found it difficult to understand the reason behind taking photos at such a difficult time.
Chrissy announced the tragic loss of her son Jack by sharing a series of heart-rending black and white pictures of her grieving in hospital.
She wrote: "We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before.
"We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough."
The model said that she and John – who have two children, Luna, 4, and Miles, 2 – had already named the son that they lost.
She continued: "We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital.
"But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack. So he will always be Jack to us.
"Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever."
Addressing Jack, she wrote: "To our Jack – I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive.
"We will always love you."
The emotional post continued with Chrissy – who revealed in August that she and John were expecting – thanking her followers for their support after she was hospitalized on Sunday.
Chrissy wrote: "Thank you to everyone who has been sending us positive energy, thoughts and prayers.
"We feel all of your love and truly appreciate you."
The post concluded with Chrissy acknowledging what she is thankful for.
She wrote: "We are so grateful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we’ve been able to experience.
"But everyday can’t be full of sunshine.
"On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it."
Chrissy later tweeted: "Driving home from the hospital with no baby. How can this be real."
Chrissy had been keeping her fans up to date throughout her pregnancy and previously told her Instagram followers: "I was always, always bleeding.
"I'm about halfway through pregnancy and the blood has been going on for a little less than a month.
"More than a period, girls, and definitely not spotting."
On September 24, Chrissy announced that her latest cook book would be postponed indefinitely due to her "high-risk" pregnancy.
She added that her third pregnancy was unexpected and she "didn't think" she was able to get pregnant naturally, as her two other children were conceived through IVF treatments.
