Jennifer Aniston shares first look at Friends reunion and confirms release date

Jennifer Aniston has confirmed that the Friends reunion episode will finally air later this month.

The actress took to her Instagram account on Thursday to post a teaser clip showing all six cast members walking arm-in-arm.

Jennifer, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer can all be seen together for the first time in years with the theme song I'll Be There For You playing at a slower speed.

Text then reads: "The one where they get back together".

"It’s official! The #FriendsReunion premieres May 27th on @HBOMax — could we BE any more excited?!,"Aniston shared in her Instagram caption.

The show will be called Friends: The Reunion and HBO Max will debut the special on May 27, which is the one-year anniversary of HBO Max’s launch.

All six cast members executive produced the special show and there will also be a variety of special guests including Reese Witherspoon, Elliott Gould and Tom Selleck, who all appeared as guest stars on the original series.

Other guest stars include David Beckham, Justin Bieber, BTS, James Corden, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne, Lady Gaga, Kit Harington, Larry Hankin, Mindy Kaling, Thomas Lennon, Christina Pickles, James Michael Tyler, Maggie Wheeler and Malala Yousafzai.

Courteney, who plays Monica Geller in Friends, recently revealed it was "so emotional" filming the show, which was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show via a video link from London, the actress discussed poke what it was like to eventually get the group back together.

She explained: "It was unbelievable, so emotional.

"It's an unscripted reunion, but we got to be on Stage 24 for the first time, all of us, in I forgot how many years – fifteen years? Seventeen years?"

Host Ellen asked Courteney, 56, if it had brought back lots of memories and she replied: "I have the worst memory. Everything came up that I forgot about.

"But, it was great. It was really fun. We had a lot of special surprises, and it was fantastic. It really was."

In 2020, all 10 seasons of Friends left Netflix and joined HBO Max in a deal that is rumoured to have cost WarnerMedia over $400 million for the rights to the original series.

It was originally set to film in February 2020 but was only able to begin filming in April.
