Ex Corrie & Emmerdale star Jonathan Wrather's new job

EX Coronation Street and Emmerdale actor Jonathan Wrather has swapped soaps for smoothies as he has set up his own juice van.

The actor, 51, starred in the ITV countryside series as killer Pierce Harris last year as well as playing ex-con Joe Carter in Corrie, and opened Remedy on The Park earlier this month.

The new business venture came after Jonathan relocated from London to Alderley Edge, Cheshire, and wanted a more wholesome way of life and fell in love with juicing.

He said: “Moving to Alderley Edge from London five years ago with a young family, we spent a lot of time in the village park.

”I began juicing and became intrigued by the health benefits that can be gained from drinking raw cold pressed fruit and vegetable juices.

"As an actor who has spent long periods away from home, touring or away on set, I know it’s not always easy to eat well and look after myself.

"I bought a juicer and began researching and reading religiously about nutrition and juicing. It was a timely and obvious way to help safeguard my health, and not least that of my children.

"Getting a healthy balance of the good stuff into my kids alongside the treats can be a bit of a battle! It was somewhat of a revelation that nutritious can be delicious!

"Not only this but it made simple sense to counter the onset of so called, ‘lifestyle diseases’ that too many of us predictably suffer from.“

Corrie star reveals how soap helped her recover from an eating disorder

Gemma Oaten recently debuted on Coronation Street as flirty mum Isla – fulfilling a lifelong career ambition.

The actress suffered from anoxeria nervosa as a teenager and will receiving treatment 30-minutes on the Cobbles was her lifeline.

She describes how staff used the ITV soap as a reward, only allowing her to watch it if she had made sufficient effort to eat.

She said: “I nearly didn’t make it because of the eating disorder. I almost died four times. I spent a lot of my life in hospitals, eating disorder units and psychiatric units. My favourite TV shows got me through.

“Some of these places were backwards in their approach. The psychiatric unit I was in when I was 11 was brutal.”

        When did Corrie first start?

From the moment Coronation Street first aired live on December 9, 1960, millions since have been gripped by the ups and downs of Weatherfield’s residents.

Its early days portrayed a realistic kitchen-sink drama showing the ordinary day-to-day lives of working-class northerners, and the show was considered ground-breaking.

It is the second longest running soap opera in the UK after The Archers.

But not everyone liked it. One early critic wrote: “The programme is doomed from the outset . . . with its dreary signature tune and grim scenes of a row of terraced houses.”

Over sixty years on and the signature tune and terraced houses are still there.

        What a throwback

Danniella Westbrook looked almost unrecognisable in a throwback photo with her brother and a friend.

The 48-year-old took a trip down memory lane with the fresh-faced snap – taken in Gozo, Malta – telling fans she was “about the same age” as her daughter Jodie, 20, when it was taken.

Westbrook, who first found fame in Eastenders as Sam Mitchell, has had a well-documented battle with cocaine addiction that has lead to her needing reconstructive surgery on her nose.
