Emmerdale fans fume as Twitter account leaks cliffhanger before airing on screen

Emmerdale viewers were left fuming tonight after the cliffhanger involving Charity and Cain Dingle was spoiled before the episode aired.

Tuesday night’s episode brought the drama when Charity, played by Emma Atkins, faced a nightmare situation as a burglar broke into the pub, viciously attacked her and left her unconscious on the floor.

The balaclava wearing intruder turned out to be Cain Dingle who was rumbled when his brother discovered the stolen crates of booze in their garage.

He said: “I knew it, do you think I’m an idiot or something? When you text me before to give my mum a bit of a break for a few hours, what you actually meant was to keep her out of the pub.

“Why didn’t you tell me what you’re planning?”

But it soon became clear that Cain had no idea he had messed up so badly.

“What you don’t know can’t hurt you,” he said.

“Listen it’s done now. Your mum can claim on the insurance and then I can give her that booze back.”

He clambered to explain his attack on Charity, saying: “It was an accident and she fell over. I was going to help but then the police came and I had to do one.

“It was just a little knock on the head.” he said, but Charity was left in a pool of her own blood and taken to hospital.

Some fans were confused over Cain’s motive for the burglary as one said: “They need serious cash to get them out of this hole – so cain goes and robs some booze and petty cash from a pub that’s on its arse – let it make sense?”

Tonights was an hour-long episode but a premature Tweet posted 30 minutes before the episode finished pretty much spoiled the ending for viewers following the official Emmerdale account.

The Tweet said: “Cain has left Charity fighting for her life! See how it happened” with a link to the episode.

Emmerdale usually airs for half an hour and finishes at 7:30pm but tonight it aired for longer, finishing at 8pm, so perhaps the Tweet was scheduled for the usual finish time.

Reacting to the slip-up, one fan replied: “Between the show itself and the social media always ruining these big moments I give up.”

One angrily wrote: “Get your act together . What’s the point watching now . Between this and the article about vanity possibly not reuniting I really am going to tune out.”

Another laughed at the blunder : “Your social media team really is something else.”

A disappointed fan said: “Completely ruined it….again.”

Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV at 7pm
