Dua Lipa launching a book club proves sexy pop stars are becoming a thing of the past | The Sun
DUA Lipa is arguably one of the UK’s biggest pop exports of the century and is talented, clever and glamorous.
But sadly, it turns out she is also just a bit . . . boring.
Rather than dishing out another pop banger, Dua has today announced she is launching a book club as part of her Service95 brand, which already includes a newsletter and a podcast.
Each month from now on, Dua will be recommending a book to her fans to read, the first being Shuggie Bain, a debut novel by Douglas Stuart, set in 1980s working-class Glasgow.
Now while I commend Dua’s dedication to broadening her fans’ horizons, I also have to ask – is this what most of them really want?
As a huge fan of hers, it certainly isn’t what I’m particularly interested in.

Nor do I care about where she likes to eat her dinner in Los Angeles or which organic wine producers she prefers – as per two of her recent newsletters.
I understand the days of sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll are fast becoming a thing of the past.
But even so, when did being a pop star stop being all about the music?
Dua has been busy working on her third album and fans had hoped it would be released early this year.

Ed's top dog
ED Sheeran has made a pawfect new pal in Maxine the corgi.
The Eyes Closed singer carried the pooch in a backpack as he visited Howard Stern's SiriusXM radio show in New York.
Ed has been busy promoting his new album Subtract – but it doesn’t really need much help.
It has been outselling the rest of the UK top 25 combined and became the fastest-selling album of this year just four days after its release on Friday.
It will become his sixth consecutive No1 album when the Official Charts are released tomorrow.
Talk about being the top dog.
Mindful Tom’s off the booze
TOM Holland has quit booze after his new TV series prompted him to reflect on his mental health.
The Spider-Man actor plays antisocial Danny Sullivan in The Crowded Room, which sees his character arrested after a shooting in New York.
It’s inspired by the true story of Billy Milligan – who was the first person in the US to be acquitted of a major crime due to a severe personality disorder – and led Tom to go sober.
The star, who hasn’t touched alcohol for 16 months, told Entertainment Weekly: “Learning about mental health and the power of it, and speaking to psychiatrists about Danny and Billy’s struggles, has been something that has been so informative to my own life.
Reflecting on making the Apple TV+ series, he added: “I’m no stranger to the physical aspects of the job.
"But the mental aspect – it really beat me up and it took a long time to recover afterwards, to get back to reality.”
Hood's no good, Justin
I AM not sure Justin Bieber's new fashion trend is going to catch on.
The Peaches singer went out for a walk in New York with his T-shirt tied around his head to protect him from the sun.
Justin teamed his novel piece of headgear with a pair of jeans and a white vest.
The Canadian pop star has been taking a break from performing after cancelling his entire tour while he recovers from Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which causes facial paralysis.
But while he isn’t on the road, he is believed to have been cooking up new music.
Justin, whose last album was 2021’s Justice, has been in and out of the studio and is expected to release a new record later this year.
He has also been lying low with his model wife Hailey and the pair even chose to skip the New York Met Gala last week.
Given Justin’s latest fashion choice, I think that may have been the right decision.
Vern got tripsy on the catwalk
VERNON KAY has revealed his modelling career took an early nosedive when he fell off a catwalk while drunk.
The Radio 2 DJ, who will take over the mid-morning weekday slot on Monday, was scouted at the Clothes Show in Birmingham as a youngster but didn’t have much luck in the industry.
He said: “I fell off a catwalk once in Paris. When you do fashion shows they give you free champagne. I’ve never had it before, so I was like, ‘This is like fizzy pop!’ ”
On the station’s Tracks Of My Years feature, Vernon also revealed he had a crush on wife Tess Daly before even realising who she was.
Speaking about the video to band The Beloved's 1993 song Sweet Harmony, in which she appeared, he recalled: “You’ve got a room full of testosterone-fuelled boys and it’s kinda, ‘Good video lads, isn’t it?’
“And then Shaun Ryder would come on with the Happy Mondays. But we’d be like, ‘Rewind it!’
“When Tess and I first met, The Beloved video came on and she went, ‘Oh, that’s me there’.”
Kate shows some flare
SHE will turn 50 in July but it looks like Kate Beckinsale is ageing in reverse.
The British actress wore this billowing dress to the Los Angeles premiere of her new comedy, Fool’s Paradise, and was the belle of the ball when she stepped out on the red carpet.
She now lives in the US but there was no chance of her missing King Charles' Coronation at the weekend, because her mum back home gave her a blow-by-blow account.
Kate said: “I didn’t watch it in real time, but my mother is really concerned that I experience the UK in real time, so my phone memory is destroyed.
“My mum was videoing off the telly, five hours of stuff.”
And she certainly wasn’t surprised that Saturday’s historic celebrations had to contend with continuous downpours.

Frankie movie joy
FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD are having their story turned into a feature-length film – days after reuniting for their first performance in 36 years.
The group, who had hits including Two Tribes and The Power Of Love, came together again in Liverpool as part of the Eurovision celebrations.
Now a biopic is on the way, based on frontman Holly Johnson's memoir A Bone In My Flute and named after their biggest hit, Relax.
Holly, who has also announced a headline solo tour for October, will be played by Welsh actor Callum Scott Howells, who is best known as Colin in hit Channel 4 drama It’s A Sin.
It will be a dramatic watch as the band proved controversial with their No1 track Relax, which was banned by the BBC because it celebrated gay sex.
They were originally together from 1980 to 1987 and released two albums, but split after a fight backstage at Wembley Arena.
Given they’ve just set aside their differences, I hope the film won’t cause more friction.
