Corries Spider exposed as Elsies dad as fans predict Toyah adoption twist

Coronation Street's Toyah Battersby could soon be reunited with her former foster daughter Elsie, as fans reckon they've rumbled a key DNA link.

The doting foster mum was left devastated as she was forced to say goodbye to Elsie after discovering her fiancé Imran Habeeb had cheated on her with Abi Webster – and was the father to her son Alfie.

Desperate to stay true to herself, Toyah admitted the truth at an adoption meeting and saw Elsie depart in a taxi for good.

But now fans are certain that Toyah's ex-boyfriend Spider Nugent could have a key DNA link to Elsie which would see the pair reunited.

It was confirmed last week that Spider will make an epic return to the soap after an incredible 25 years, with Coronation Street announcing the big news on its social media pages.

Real name Geoffrey David Nugent, and played by Martin Hancock, Emily Bishop's nephew will be back on our screens soon, with producer Iain MacLeod explaining: "Martin is a fabulous actor and Spider is a character with real heritage, and affection from fans.

"His return heralds an enthralling new story for Toyah, who will be embroiled in a mess of guilt and secrecy when Spider arrives. Will he be her saviour or the thing that ruins her life forever?"

If Spider really is Elsie's dad, it would throw a spanner in the works for Toyah's current plan as she attempts to battle Abi for custody of her son alongside Imran.

But fans are certain of the twist, with one writing on Facebook: "How crazy would it be if it turns out Elsie is [Spider's] daughter lol, he gets back with Toyah and she fights for Elsie back."

Someone else tweeted: "Since they announced Spider is coming back to #Corrie I’m convinced he’s Elsie’s dad and that’s how Toyah gets her back!"

A third penned: "Just been watching classic Corrie he’s in hope he comes back and Toyah and him rekindle what they had even happily ever after and possibly a baby!"

Not much is known about Elsie's background other than the fact that she was abused before coming to Toyah and Imran's – but her father has never been mentioned.

Others are certain Spider's reappearance heralds a final exit for Emily, as he was originally staying with her in Peru.

Actress Eileen Derbyshire originally left the soap on "sabbatical" in 2015, later appearing for various cameo appearances, but hasn't been back as a regular character since.

And some fans fear this could be a way for her to permanently quit the soap, after Norris Cole was killed off last year.

One wrote: "Is this the end for Emily? She is meant to be with Spider in Peru. Possibly her exit also."

"Spider back, eh? Sure, there's the Toyah angle, but I wonder knowing [Eileen Derbyshire] isn't coming back, to have an Emily offscreen death while Ken, Rita, Audrey, etc. are all still around," someone else suggested.

As another worried fan echoed: "I've just had the horrible realisation that with Spider coming back to Corrie, they're probably going to kill off Auntie Em. I hope this isn't true and Spider come back with Emily so they can fight the power down at the Red Rec again."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm on ITV.
