Coronation Street's Charlie Lawson reveals he's been given a secret role on I'm A Celeb as Bev Callard's 'famous friend'

CORONATION Street's Charlie Lawson has revealed he has a secret role on this year's I'm A Celeb.

The Jim McDonald actor, 61, let slip the news on This Morning today – hastily adding that he probably wasn't allowed to talk about it.

He told Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford: "She asked me when we had a chat – I don't know whether you're supposed to know all this carry-on but I'll tell you anyway because I like you.

"She said: 'Can you be my go-to famous friend whenever I'm in the brown stuff or whatever?'

"I said: 'Of course.' I don't know how that will manifest itself. You probably know more than me about the programme so we shall see."

However, Bev might be in trouble if she calls on Charlie too late, with the actor warning: "I certainly won't be sitting up all bloody night for her to call me."

Shane Nolan, whose dad is Shane Richie, was also This Morning and revealed he didn't get called up for the mystery task.

The 28-year-old said : "No I didn't get that gig – I'm intrigued."

Bev, 63, is one of ten celebrities going into Gwrych Castle in Wales this week ahead of the show's launch on Sunday.

Yesterday, The Sun gave readers the first look behind the castle walls – revealing the grim conditions the stars will be living in.

Corrie fans were confused when the Beverley suddenly disappeared from Coronation Street at the beginning of 2020.

But Beverley later revealed her absence was caused by a minor hip operation that went disastrously wrong – and left her needing a full hip replacement.

The operation, which left Beverley unable to walk, made the actress fear she'd be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life.

However, she make such a recovery she will now be taking on the gruelling UK series of I'm A Celebrity.
