Coronation Street spoilers: Social services investigate Chesney and Gemma over Joseph's disappearance

VANISHING in upsetting scenes, Joseph has left Chesney and Gemma fearing for his safety.

However, in the midst of their troubles, the pair will also be dealing with a social worker and an impending investigation.

Life as parents has been everything but smooth-sailing for Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) and Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell).

But with Joseph (William Flanagan) going missing, their problems will be taking a new turn.

In a brand new episode of Coronation Street, due to air on January 21, 2022, the residents from No.5 will be treated to a food parcel by Dev (Jimmi Harkishin).

A gesture which will delight Gemma but that will be refused by Chesney.

However, when the electricity goes off, the couple will be left to face a social worker who has been sent their way to investigate them.

And with such a scene of chaos, the investigation will already be off to a bad start for the pair.

Joseph's disappearance has caused a stir among Weatherfield residents.

The 10-year-old – who has gone through tragedy at a very early age – walked out on his parents after Chesney reported the bullying he fell victim to in school.

However, protective dad Chesney only angered his son as Joseph didn't want his bullies to be pointed out.

After welcoming quadruplets in 2019, the couple have been doing their best to make ends meet, while attempting to feed five mouths at once.

Their money woes have only led Joseph into feeling excluded from his family circle and classmates as some of them have teased him over his parents' modest earnings.

During last night's (January 10, 2022) double bill, Joseph reminded his father he needed money for a school trip and to replace his jumper.

Yet Chesney was too distracted by the boy's younger siblings, only adding to Joseph's frustration.

When Joseph asked him whether they were poor, Chesney reassured his eldest son, claiming there were families much worse off than they were.

And as his aunt Fiz Stape invited him for lunch, after revealing that no school meals were being distributed, Joseph let out a heart-breaking bombshell to his cousin Hope (played by real-life twin sister Isabella Flanagan).

Hope has tried to give money to Joseph, not shying away from stealing out of her mother Fiz's purse.

When Fiz catches Joseph red-handed, she tells him off which only leads Joseph to admit he believes his father prefers his siblings over him.
