Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly have hosted Strictly Come Dancing together since Sir Bruce Forsyth stepped down from the role. The pair are a big hit with viewers but despite the show’s success, Claudia admitted she is always super nervous behind-the-scenes and she misses being able to comfort the celebrities who are taking part due to the current restrictions in place to stop the spread of coronavirus.
Claudia and Tess joined Gethin Jones on It Takes Two on Friday evening to talk about the changes to Strictly and what they think of the series so far.
Gethin remarked: “It’s so weird isn’t it? It’s so different this year but so familiar.
“How has it been for you guys? There’s no hugs before the show, no lift selfies anymore. how different has it been?”
“You’re right, we can’t do any of that anymore, can we?” Tess replied turning to Claudia.
“We can’t link or hold hands and I miss that, I do, I won’t lie, I miss being close to her.”
Claudia added: “I really miss it. I get very nervous before the show and Tess just sort of looks after me.
“So, we miss that and mainly, I just want those who are taking part to feel good.
“They’re so nervous and normally I’d be squeezing them or if they got a 10, you would all celebrate together.
“Normally, I’m, up here with everyone but still, we love that the fact that we’re still on air.”
Gethin joked: “And, when Bill [Bailey] falls at your feet, you’re running away into the golden glitter balls. You can’t give him a hug.”
Meanwhile, Tess spoke about what she gets up to when the couples are dancing and she can’t be seen on camera.
“What do you two actually do when the dancers are performing?” Gethin asked. “Are you watching like we do at home, like, ‘Oh look at that toe lead and how’s the hold?’”

“I try and predict what scores they’re going to give,” Tess revealed.
“If Craig [Revel Horwood] does one predictably low then I tend to heckle him but he can’t hear.
“I always hope that my mic is turned down at that point or I’m dancing behind the podium because no one can see me having a little dance.”
Claudia added: “This is my little world and there are two monitors up there and I watch obsessively.
“I’m 48 and I have the eye sight of a mole so I’m this close,” she said demonstrating how close she gets with her fingers.
“I’ll have watched It Takes Two all week, which I love, I’ve watched their training and their rehearsal sometimes.
“Often, if someone has a rehearsal and they’re really nervous, they come off and they’re like, ‘Argh, I need to fix this bit.’
“So you’re hoping, ‘Please, please let it all come together.’”
Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday on BBC One at 7.15pm.
