Chicago PD star LaRoyce Hawkins teases season 10 Atwater romance
Jesse Lee Soffer's directorial debut on Chicago PD
NBC’s acclaimed procedural drama Chicago PD returned to screens on Wednesday with the team tackling another criminal case.
This time, Officer Kevin Atwater (played by LaRoyce Hawkins) was shocked to discover his estranged father Lew Atwater (Erik Laray Harvey) at the centre of the investigation.
Throughout the series, viewers have gained major insight into Atwater’s personal life.
The respected officer has previously opened up about his difficult relationship with his father and how he became responsible for his siblings after his mother’s death.
Despite Lew’s troubled history with drugs and prison, his involvement in the shooting was entirely innocent as he owned the building where the officers were investigating a death.
As a result, Atwater and Lew’s relationship took a step in the right direction as they were able to confront their issues.
While this was a major victory for the detective hopeful, fans could see a new side of Atwater as he embarks on a romantic relationship.
Actor Hawkins dropped a major clue as he confirmed: “I think it’s safe to say that there is somebody.
“We don’t know who she is, but Atwater does need a companion and soulful companionship in order to navigate the spaces that he’s in.”

Hawkins continued: “As an artist, I imagine who she is. I can’t tell you who she is because we haven’t written her yet, but I can tell you that somebody is holding him down.”
In the past, Atwater has had fleeting romances, as fans will recall the season nine moment he had sex with a person of interest, Celeste Nichols (Amanda Peyton).
Despite this, the actor Hawkins revealed the upcoming romance might not be a serious relationship as he told TVInsider: ”I think right now he wants peace if that makes sense.
“Like I said, someone who can hold him down and talk to him, listen to him. He’s got a lot going on, and he’s spread thin.”
He explained: “And so I think a relationship would add a layer of responsibility that he might not be in the pocket for.
“But companionship where he knows he can lean in and find peace and maybe even some silence, solitude, you know what I mean? I think that’s all he needs.”
As Chicago PD season 10 is coming to an end on Wednesday, May 24, it’s likely fans will see Atwater’s romantic interest when the show return later this year for season 11.
Chicago PD season 10 continues Wednesdays on NBC in the USA.
