Celebrity MasterChef: Melanie Sykes’ ex-husband you may recognise from Death in Paradise
Melanie was one of the favourites to win this year’s season of Celebrity MasterChef but she narrowly missed the final week when she was voted off in last week’s episodes of the BBC show. The television presenter is known for appearing on a host of programmes, such as Let’s Do Lunch with Mel and Gino and I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here. However, she has a very famous ex-husband in actor Daniel Caltagirone who once had a role in Death in Paradise.
When Melanie was a presenter for Galaxy FM Radio at the beginning of her professional career, it is reported this is where she met Daniel.
As a star of the small screen and Hollywood Blockbusters, the broadcaster got the chance to interview the movie star.
The pair went from strength to strength as Daniel popped the question to his interviewer and the couple were married in 2001.
In the midst of their marriage, the famous faces welcomed two sons, Roman and Valentino, into the world before their relationship hit the rocks.
Just eight years after tying the knot, the husband and wife decided to part ways and ever since, Daniel has featured in a number of shows and films.

Most notably, in 2020, Daniel was cast as the character of Will ‘Wolfie’ Arnot in the murder-mystery drama, Death in Paradise.
In the episode entitled, Murder on Mosquito Island, his character was at the centre of the investigation when he was found dead.
The character was a former Army Major who ended up being in charge of a survival course on the island of Saint Marie.
New recruit at the time, DI Neville Parker (played by Ralf Little), was on hand to crack the case and he discovered the identity of the killer.
I would have been lynched
It turns out Daniel and the actor who plays DI Parker, Ralf, knew each other before starring in the same show together.
Speaking of Ralf, Mel’s ex-husband said: “Ralf and I go back nearly 20 years. We both came through the profession together (Ralf with The Royle Family and me with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) and would frequently hang out in those crazy days when we were under the spotlight.
“It was great to catch up again and reminisce about those days. Lots of laughter! I was delighted to see Ralf cast as the new lead.
“He will be fantastic in the role and seemed to already be enjoying the experience,” the award-winning actor continued.
Of his character on the show, Daniel added: “On the surface, he was an inspiring leader brimming with energy.
“However, as the show progresses, we realise that he was in fact a damaged man, a victim and perpetrator. Ultimately a person who lost himself and was trying to do the right thing.”
Being cast for Death in Paradise was almost like “a dream” for Mel’s ex-husband as he, like millions of other viewers across the world, is a big fan of the show.
The actor explained: “It’s a show that everyone I know watches. I would have been lynched by my family if I had turned it down!”
Despite the Celebrity MasterChef star and her ex-husband getting a divorce, they remain in each other’s lives and co-parent their two sons.
Especially with their youngest, Valentino, being diagnosed with autism, the pair put on a united front to ensure he has the best life possible.
Speaking in an interview on ITV’s This Morning in 2016, Mel said: “We are not together anymore but we have complete solidarity on parenting, we are both fighting for him.”
Daniel corroborated his ex-wife’s comments, adding: “Parents should always get rid of their egos for their children.”
Celebrity MasterChef continues tonight at 9pm on BBC One. Death in Paradise seasons 1-10 are available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
