Carole Baskin gets into the groove as she leaves DWTS rehearsals
Netflix star Carole Baskin is getting into the groove of Dancing With The Stars rehearsals, as the Tiger King reality star was spotted leaving the dance studios this week.
On the same day we were blessed with the Strictly Come Dancing line-up, it was confirmed the intriguing CEO of Big Cat Rescue, who appeared on the Netflix series earlier this year, would be a part of the US dancing show’s cohort alongside the likes of Selling Sunset’s Chrishell Stause and Jesse Metcalfe.
Clearly wasting no time in learning some moves, Carole was seen leaving one of her first rehearsals for the show on Thursday, with the activist and TV-star sported an apt face mask as she headed to her car.
Her black mask was emblazoned with the words ‘Hey all you cool cats and kittens’, which is a play on the catchphrase she became famous for saying in her videos.
Healthy, and stylish.
The contestant, who revealed this week she was hoping the show would introduce viewers to another side of her not shown in the Tiger King series – which heavily documented her feud with Joe Exotic – was wearing a blue T-shirt and jeans, while also carrying a leopard-print backpack.
She turned to cameras waiting for her to emerge from the studios, before getting in her car and driving off.
Carole, who was known by some in the world of Big Cats thanks to her ongoing work as an animal rights activist,’ has become a star in her own right following the programme, with her profile set to rise on the ABC show.
Plus, shes hoping to use that fame to help save more animals.
Carol spoke briefly on GMA about her decision to take part on the show as she explained: ‘Tiger King really glamourised animal abusers and villainized me for trying to stop animal abuse so I felt really betrayed by that.
‘But what surprised me was how many people believed that false portrayal of me without doing anything to find out who I really am so it’s been a nightmare.’
She continued: ‘I really hope Dancing With The Stars can help to change that. The biggest thing for me is that the longer that my partner and I can stay in the competition, it can keep the cats forefront in the viewer’s eye and to me, that was where Tiger King missed the ball.
‘It really should have been about the animals so I’m really hoping that dancing with the stars will do that.’
Carole added in a statement: ‘I’m going to put my heart and soul into winning the Mirror Ball because the longer I can stay on the show, the more the plight of big cats will be kept in the public eye. We are so close to ending the abuse of captive big cats, through passage of the Big Cat Public Safety Act.
‘We just have to keep in on the minds of our Congressional leaders until it’s brought to the floor for a vote. I’m hoping that seeing me go way out of my comfort zone will encourage everyone to call their Senators and House members in support of our bill at BigCatAct.com.’
She added definitively: ‘I am competitive, but I am competitive with myself. I just want to do the best that I can really do.’
We look forward to seeing what she brings to the dance floor.
Dancing With The Stars season 29 premieres September 14 in the US on ABC.
